HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate  the congregation of New 
4Freewill Baptist Church on the occasion of the church's 24th 
5anniversary; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The members and clergy of New Freewill Baptist 
7Church have undertaken numerous initiatives to serve their 
8community; they have sponsored various Easter and scholastic 
9activities, as well as alternate programs and activities such 
10as "Praise The Lord Night", which is an alternative to 
11Halloween; they have promoted the usage of Project Reality 
12Health Curriculum standards in various Champaign schools; they 
13have also purchased a DVD series, "The Truth Behind Hip Hop", 
14in order to educate others about hip hop's influence in society 
15and the negativity of hip hop usage, in many cases with panel 
16discussions among youth, teachers, counselors, and parents; 
17and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, The pastorate of New Freewill Baptist Church, 
19including Bishop King James Underwood and Minister Theodore 
20Burnett, have hosted numerous workshops on various topics, 
21including financial planning and management, healthy living, 
22and many others; and

1    WHEREAS, The members of New Freewill Baptist Church take 
2Communion to the sick, shut-ins, and residents of local nursing 
3homes; they also reach out to inmates in local jails and 
4prisons and hold bible study and other programs for all who are 
5interested; and

  
 
6    WHEREAS, The congregation of New Freewill Baptist Church 
7serve as models of piety, integrity, and dedication for the 
8people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
11congratulate the congregation of New Freewill Baptist Church on 
12the occasion of the church's 24th anniversary and wish them 
13continued success and happiness in the future; and be it 
14further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to New Freewill Baptist Church as a symbol of our 
17esteem and respect.
