2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Steven R. Bordner |
4 | | on the occasion of his retirement as a 9th Judicial Circuit |
5 | | Court Judge after 20 years; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Judge Bordner, a Farmington native and lifelong |
7 | | Fulton County resident, earned his undergraduate degree from |
8 | | Illinois College in 1977; he went on to receive his Juris |
9 | | Doctor from the Southern Illinois University School of Law in |
10 | | 1980; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Judge Bordner began his career by practicing law |
12 | | at the firm Collins & Bordner in Lewistown, where he remained |
13 | | for over 15 years; he also served as a Special Assistant |
14 | | Attorney General for the State of Illinois; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Judge Bordner left the practice in 1995 when he |
16 | | was appointed as an Associate Circuit Court Judge for the 9th |
17 | | Circuit; he was elected as a full Circuit Court Judge in 2010; |
18 | | and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Judge Bordner has handled every type of case, |
20 | | ranging from parking tickets to murder cases; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Judge Bordner is an incredibly accomplished |
2 | | Circuit Court Judge; he has served every county in the 9th |
3 | | Circuit, which consists of the counties of Fulton, McDonough, |
4 | | Knox, Hancock, Warren, and Henderson, and has also served Cook |
5 | | County; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Judge Bordner's most significant criminal case |
7 | | was a double homicide in which 3 others were also injured; he |
8 | | ruled that the defendant be sentenced to death, and even though |
9 | | the case was appealed, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled |
10 | | unanimously to uphold his decision, a rare occurrence for the |
11 | | Supreme Court; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Judge Bordner has broken the mold of Circuit Court |
13 | | Judge beyond its administrative duties with a desire to tackle |
14 | | community issues for the benefit of all; he has a focused |
15 | | resolve that has earned him the respect of any who knows him; |
16 | | therefore, be it

17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
18 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
19 | | congratulate Steven R. Bordner on his retirement as a 9th |
20 | | Judicial Circuit Court Judge and we wish him continued success |
21 | | and happiness in the future; and be it further
