2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Reverend |
4 | | Edward L. "Shorty" Alsip of Marion, who passed away on July 3, |
5 | | 2015; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Alsip was born in Creal Springs on November |
7 | | 15, 1935 to Edward Ellis and Mary Polly (nee Newton) Alsip; he |
8 | | graduated from Crab Orchard High School in 1953 and was united |
9 | | in marriage to Charlene "Tiner" Duke on August 31, 1957 in |
10 | | Corinth, Mississippi; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Alsip worked at the American Can Company of |
12 | | Chicago; he then worked for Jake's Tire in Marion and for |
13 | | Fabick Machinery in Marion, where he worked for 33 years, |
14 | | retiring in 1998; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Alsip was baptized and became a lay minister |
16 | | in the Methodist Church in Creal Springs before joining Mount |
17 | | Moriah General Baptist Church, where he was ordained in the |
18 | | late 1960s and preached for 8 years; he then moved to |
19 | | Spillertown Baptist Church, where he preached for over 23 |
20 | | years, retiring in April of 2008; he came out of retirement and |
21 | | preached at the Reynoldsburg Church for 3 years; he lead |
22 | | numerous revivals, performed countless marriages, and presided |

1 | | over many funerals; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Alsip was a member of the Ohio Association of |
3 | | General Baptists of Southern Illinois and the International |
4 | | Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers; he enjoyed |
5 | | riding his Can-Am motorcycle and the fellowship of his friends |
6 | | at the Marion Senior Citizens Center; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Alsip was preceded in death by his parents; |
8 | | his son, James Ellis Alsip; and his wife, Charlene; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Alsip is survived by his daughter and |
10 | | son-in-law, Sherry and John Lazorchak; his son and |
11 | | daughter-in-law, Keith and Becky Alsip; his son, Ricky Alsip |
12 | | and companion, Theresa Avants; his 4 grandchildren, Hannah |
13 | | Lazorchak and her fiancé, Carl Brooks, Joshua Lazorchak, |
14 | | Matthew Alsip, and Abigail Alsip; his sister and |
15 | | brother-in-law, Linda and Jim Robertson; other extended |
16 | | family; and many friends; therefore, be it

17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
18 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
19 | | mourn the passing of Reverend Edward L. "Shorty" Alsip, and |
20 | | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all |
21 | | who knew and loved him; and be it further
