|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Martha Herm on the |
4 | | occasion of her retirement as the Executive Director of The |
5 | | Center for Prevention of Abuse in Peoria; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Martha Herm is responsible for
managing the |
7 | | budget, grant procurement, program development, and |
8 | | representing the agency to
community and funding sources while |
9 | | supervising a staff of 95; she began working at The Center for |
10 | | Prevention of Abuse as the finance and facilities supervisor in
|
11 | | 1989 and was named the Executive Director in 1990; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, The Center for Prevention of Abuse works to change |
13 | | the lives of men,
women, and children caught in the web of |
14 | | interpersonal violence and abuse; the agency began as a rape |
15 | | crisis hotline run by volunteers; today, the agency consists of |
16 | | 5 different departments: WomenStrength, InnerStrength, |
17 | | SeniorStrength, YougthStrength, and FamilyStrength; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, During Martha Herm's time at The Center for |
19 | | Prevention of Abuse, the center celebrated the 25th anniversary |
20 | | of the Duck Race - the major fundraiser for the agency; and the |
21 | | elder abuse program was expanded to become Adult Protective |
22 | | Services; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Martha Herm is also involved with the Rotary Club |
2 | | of Peoria, the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence, |
3 | | the Illinois
Certified Domestic Violence Professionals, Inc., |
4 | | the Illinois Domestic Violence Advisory Council, the 10th
|
5 | | Judicial Circuit Family Violence Coordinating Council, the |
6 | | Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault, and the
Heart of |
7 | | Illinois Agency Executives; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, Martha Herm received the Outstanding Victim |
9 | | Advocacy Award given by the Victims' Rights Caucus of the House |
10 | | of Representatives; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Martha Herm received her bachelor's degree in
|
12 | | biology from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and |
13 | | her master's degree in public
administration from the |
14 | | University of Illinois at Springfield in 1988; she taught |
15 | | school in Connecticut, was a 4-H agent in West Virginia, |
16 | | managed the housekeeping staff at the Sheraton Hotel in |
17 | | Madison, Wisconsin, and kept the books for a tour company in |
18 | | San Francisco, California; she eventually returned to manage |
19 | | the family farm, where, at one time or another, she and her |
20 | | siblings all worked and where her daughter is now the fifth |
21 | | generation to live on the family farm; and
|
22 | | WHEREAS, Martha Herm's retirement will be official on June |

1 | | 1, 2015; therefore, be it

2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
3 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
4 | | congratulate Martha Herm on her retirement as the Executive |
5 | | Director of The Center for Prevention of Abuse and we wish her |
6 | | the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further

7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
8 | | presented to Martha Herm as an expression of our esteem and |
9 | | respect.
