2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to recognize Christ Lutheran Church of | ||||||
4 | Stockton on the occasion of the church's 125th anniversary; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The congregation of Christ Lutheran Church was | ||||||
6 | organized by several German families in 1890, with the first | ||||||
7 | meetings in the Stockton School; it was later decided to build | ||||||
8 | their own house of worship; the construction of the church was | ||||||
9 | dedicated on October 7, 1894; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, During the Christ Lutheran Church's early years, | ||||||
11 | the congregation shared pastors with Warren, Illinois, an | ||||||
12 | arrangement that ended in 1916; shortly after a new parsonage | ||||||
13 | was dedicated in 1916, the church building was partially burned | ||||||
14 | down; the building was rebuilt and rededicated in 1920; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, As the congregation of Christ Lutheran Church grew | ||||||
16 | in number, it was decided to build a larger church building; in | ||||||
17 | June of 1946, the congregation purchased 24 acres of land on | ||||||
18 | the north edge of Stockton from Howard Bohnhoff; from that | ||||||
19 | land, 25 building lots were sold, as well as 11 acres that were | ||||||
20 | sold to the Village of Stockton for a new park; from the | ||||||
21 | remaining 2 acres, the congregation built the present church | ||||||
22 | building; groundbreaking services were held in 1948 and the |

1 | corner laying services were held in 1949; the new church | ||||||
2 | building was dedicated on October 8, 1950; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, In 1968, Christ Lutheran Church's new parsonage | ||||||
4 | was built and the former parsonage, which was connected to the | ||||||
5 | church, was converted to a building for Sunday School classes | ||||||
6 | and organizational meetings; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Members of the congregation of Christ Lutheran | ||||||
8 | Church have established hospice for residents of the community | ||||||
9 | and Jo Daviess County; the church also established the area's | ||||||
10 | first food pantry in the area; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Christ Lutheran Church's current membership is | ||||||
12 | served by Pastor Susan Davenport and the Lay Chairman of the | ||||||
13 | congregation is Steven Rice; the congregation is part of the | ||||||
14 | Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, The celebration of the 125th anniversary of the | ||||||
16 | establishment of Christ Lutheran Church will be held on October | ||||||
17 | 3 and 4, 2015; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
19 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
20 | recognize Christ Lutheran Church of Stockton on the occasion of | ||||||
21 | the church's 125th anniversary and wish its congregation |

1 | continued success and happiness in the future; and be it | ||||||
2 | further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies be presented to the Chairman | ||||||
4 | of Christ Lutheran Church, the Stockton Heritage Museum, and | ||||||
5 | the President of the Village of Stockton as an expression of | ||||||
6 | our esteem and respect.
