HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Fred H. Bright, Jr. on the
4occasion of his retirement as Mayor of East Alton after 18
5years; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mayor Bright first came to the Village of East
7Alton as Police Chief in 1972; in 1978, he became the Director
8of Operations (Major) for the Madison County Sheriff's
9Department; he was appointed to the Park and Recreation Board
10in 1978, serving until 1983; in 1983, he was appointed to the
11East Alton Fire & Police Commission, where he served until
12being elected to the Village Board of Trustees, serving from
131987 to 1997; in 1997, he was elected Mayor of the Village of
14East Alton; and
 
15    WHEREAS, During his tenure, Mayor Bright has overseen the
16demolition of numerous derelict structures and the
17construction of many new homes; new building codes were
18instituted, providing the residents of East Alton with safer
19housing; police and fire vehicles were modernized; and many
20infrastructure projects were completed; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Mayor Bright is the past Chairman of the Wood
22River Township Democratic Precinct Committeemen and serves on

1the Madison County Democratic Central Committee; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Mayor Bright is a veteran of the United States
3Army; he earned his bachelor's and master's degree from
4Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville; he and his late
5wife, Shirley, have 2 daughters, Lisa (Sam) Darr and Erin
6(Todd) Watson and 4 grandchildren, Megan, Zackary, Braydon, and
7Jadyn; since 1983, he has provided insurance at his State Farm
8agency; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11congratulate Fred H. Bright, Jr. on his retirement as Mayor of
12East Alton after 18 years and we wish him the best in all his
13future endeavors; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to Mayor Bright as an expression of our esteem and
16respect.
