2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bruce |
4 | | Allen Fasol of West Frankfort, who passed away on January 16, |
5 | | 2015; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Fasol was born in Benton on March 11, 1957 |
7 | | to Pearl (nee Filkins) and Delio Fasol; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Fasol served as the voice of the West |
9 | | Frankfort Redbirds in Max Morris Gymnasium for over 40 years, |
10 | | broadcasting more than 4,000 games; he was a member of the |
11 | | Illinois Broadcaster's Association Hall of Fame and recipient |
12 | | of awards such as the Broadcast Achievement Award, the Liberty |
13 | | Bell Award, the Illinois High School Association Distinguished |
14 | | Media Service Award, the Outstanding Club Leadership Award from |
15 | | Key Club International, the Merle-Jones Lifetime Achievement |
16 | | Award, the Tom McKie Achievement Award, and many others; in |
17 | | 2000, he was named as the Citizen of the Year for his work in |
18 | | West Frankfort Athletics and his dedication to the community; |
19 | | and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Fasol created, led, and assisted with dozens |
21 | | of charity and community programs and organizations; he |
22 | | launched the Emergency Tele-Medicine committee to help bring |

1 | | more advanced medical services to Southern Illinois; he was |
2 | | instrumental in the planning of hundreds of community projects; |
3 | | his most prized project was a coat program started in 2003 with |
4 | | his longtime broadcast partner and best friend, Rick |
5 | | Westermeier; the program collected and housed donated coats all |
6 | | year and made them available free to anyone in need; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Fasol was affectionately known as "Poppa" |
8 | | and his grandkids, Zakkary and Isabella Chambers and Bre'Anna, |
9 | | were "Poppa's Army"; he had 2 daughters and one son-in-law, |
10 | | Tara Fasol-Chambers and husband, Dave Chambers, and Sara Fasol; |
11 | | and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Fasol was preceded in death by his mother, |
13 | | Pearl Fasol; his father, Delio Fasol; his step-mother, Jesse |
14 | | Fasol; and his sister, Carole Hood; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Fasol is remembered by his brother, Al |
16 | | Fasol, and wife, Beverly, and their children and grandchildren, |
17 | | as well as a cousin, whom he thought of as a little brother, |
18 | | Michael Bret Hood, and his wife, Nancy, and daughter; |
19 | | therefore, be it

20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
21 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
22 | | designate the portion of Illinois Route 149 from Monroe Street |

1 | | to McClelland Street in West Frankfort as Bruce Fasol Way; and |
2 | | be it further
|
3 | | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation |
4 | | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with |
5 | | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs |
6 | | giving notice of the name of Bruce Fasol Way; and be it further |
7 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
8 | | presented to the family of Bruce Fasol and the Illinois |
9 | | Department of Transportation.
