| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The Olivet Nazarene University School of Music | ||||||
| 3 | exists to cultivate
the musical skills of student scholars and | ||||||
| 4 | to encourage a life of service to others; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The music program is designed to complement a | ||||||
| 6 | broad liberal arts
education, provide the intensive | ||||||
| 7 | professional training that aspiring musicians
need, and meet | ||||||
| 8 | the musical needs of the University, the community, and | ||||||
| 9 | Olivet's
educational region; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, In the past 5 years, the Olivet Nazarene | ||||||
| 11 | University School of Music has experienced
unprecedented | ||||||
| 12 | growth; the school consists of the 190-member Tiger Marching
| ||||||
| 13 | Band, 3 Concert Bands, 2 Orchestras, a Big Band, 2 Jazz Combos, | ||||||
| 14 | 5 Choirs, more
than 15 Chamber Ensembles, and over 500 students | ||||||
| 15 | from all majors across campus
who participate in music; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, The 190-member Tiger Marching Band is the 5th | ||||||
| 17 | largest university
marching band in the State of Illinois; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Olivet Nazarene University Music Education | ||||||
| 19 | graduates have a 100% placement record; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, The fall of 2013 marked the beginning of the | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | iLearn@olivet
initiative, making ONU School of Music an | ||||||
| 2 | all-iPad program; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, On January 19, 2015, the Olivet Nazarene | ||||||
| 4 | University School of Music received the Apple
Distinguished | ||||||
| 5 | Program Award; Apple currently has only 17 programs with this
| ||||||
| 6 | designation; the ONU School of Music is the only undergrad | ||||||
| 7 | music program to
receive this award; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The Olivet Nazarene University Marching Band has | ||||||
| 9 | been invited to march in the News Day
Parade in London, England | ||||||
| 10 | on January 1, 2016; only 12 bands from the United
States are | ||||||
| 11 | invited to participate in this parade each year; therefore, be | ||||||
| 12 | it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 14 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 15 | honor
the Olivet Nazarene University School of Music for their | ||||||
| 16 | distinguished
accomplishments in music and their commitment to | ||||||
| 17 | serving their community; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the Olivet
Nazarene University School of Music.
