2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Mayor Neal E. Nelson on | ||||||
4 | the occasion of his retirement as the Mayor of Coal City; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mayor Nelson is the son of Jack and Eileen Nelson; | ||||||
6 | he was born and raised in Wilmington with his sister and 2 | ||||||
7 | brothers; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Mayor Nelson married his delightful wife, Jenny | ||||||
9 | Peavler, on August 13, 1983 and moved to Coal City the same | ||||||
10 | year; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Mayor Nelson is the loving and caring father of 4 | ||||||
12 | daughters, Stephanie, Christina, Coley, and Dana, and the | ||||||
13 | grandfather of Colton and Grayson; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Prior to his election, Mayor Nelson closely | ||||||
15 | followed the growth of his community by attending Coal City | ||||||
16 | Planning/Zoning and Village Board meetings for 3 years; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Mayor Nelson has served as a volunteer on the Coal | ||||||
18 | City Park Board, the Coal City Promfest Committee, and Coal | ||||||
19 | City School's Parent Advisory Committee; and

1 | WHEREAS, After being elected to serve as Mayor of Coal City | ||||||
2 | in April of 2007, Mayor Nelson began his first 4-year term in | ||||||
3 | 2007; he was subsequently re-elected to a second 4-year term in | ||||||
4 | 2011; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mayor Nelson's term saw and overcame dark moments | ||||||
6 | such as a devastating tornado that struck Coal City and the | ||||||
7 | surrounding area on November 17, 2013; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, The proudest accomplishment of Mayor Nelson's | ||||||
9 | term was the approval and construction of the $6 million storm | ||||||
10 | water project, approved by the public in a referendum; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Mayor Nelson serves as an example of hardworking, | ||||||
12 | passionate, and dedicated civil service to his community and | ||||||
13 | his work during his term has benefited the State as a whole; | ||||||
14 | therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
16 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
17 | thank Coal City Mayor Neal Nelson for his many years of | ||||||
18 | service, congratulate him on the occasion of his retirement, | ||||||
19 | and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it | ||||||
20 | further
