2 | | WHEREAS, Preeclampsia is a dangerous condition of |
3 | | pregnancy that can, in its most severe form, lead to maternal |
4 | | and infant mortality or premature birth with significant health |
5 | | risks for the mother and baby; and

6 | | WHEREAS, More than 350,000 cases of preeclampsia are |
7 | | diagnosed in America every year; 25% of the cases are |
8 | | classified as severe; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, In America, a pregnant woman and her baby face |
10 | | life-threatening consequences due to preeclampsia every 6 |
11 | | minutes; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Globally, preeclampsia and other hypertensive |
13 | | disorders of pregnancy are leading causes of maternal and |
14 | | infant illness and death; conservative estimates claim that |
15 | | these disorders are responsible for 76,000 maternal and 500,000 |
16 | | infant deaths each year; and

17 | | WHEREAS, Public awareness of the symptoms of preeclampsia, |
18 | | which include spikes in maternal blood pressure, sudden |
19 | | swelling of the face, feet, and hands, severe upper abdominal |
20 | | pain, and blurred vision, can help women recognize the |
21 | | condition and seek appropriate medical care; and
