HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the
Mt. Carmel 
4Middle School 8th grade boys basketball team on winning the 
5Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association 
6Class L State
Championship; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The Junior Golden Aces defeated the Wildcats of 
8Marion in a hard-fought
battle after a terrific season; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, The Junior Golden Aces finished the regular season 
10with an impressive record of 15 wins and 6 losses; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Heading into the postseason, the Junior Golden 
12Aces knew they would be facing
great teams, but that did not 
13stop their determination to win; they won the regional title 
14after beating
Carmi and East Richland; in tournament play, they 
15overcame Murphysboro and pre-tournament favorite,
West 
16Frankfort; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The championship game started off strong for the 
18Junior Golden Aces, but the
Wildcats came back with  a few good 
19runs and closed the gap to 1 point early in the third quarter; 
20the
Junior Golden Aces never gave up and ultimately beat the 
21Wildcats 68-54; and

1    WHEREAS, This is the first boys State championship title in 
2the history of Mt. Carmel Middle
School; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, The hardworking members of the Mt. Carmel 8th 
4grade boys basketball team are
Ashton Walker, Logan Durham, 
5Austin Rager, Bret Doan, Luke Gould, Brock Plassman, Jaden 
6Merritt,
Zach Sutton, and Noah Singer; veteran coach Matt Leis 
7has led as head basketball coach for 14 years and  Beau
Belt is 
8the assistant coach; therefore, be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
11congratulate the Mt. Carmel Junior Golden Aces 8th grade boys

12basketball team on winning the Southern Illinois Junior High 
13School Athletic Association Class L State Championship and wish 
14them many more years of success; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to the Mt. Carmel Junior Golden
Aces as an expression 
17of our esteem and respect.
