HOUSE RESOLUTION 173

WHEREAS, The Middle East continues to be the most troubled and violent region on the planet; and

WHEREAS, Current trends, particularly associated with the Islamic Republic of Iran and a group of insurgents in Iraq and Syria who operate as the so-called "Islamic Caliphate" or "ISIS", indicate that dangers to the United States and the other free peoples of the world continue to increase; and

WHEREAS, In the midst of this troubled region, the State of Israel stands forth as America's key ally and as a beacon of hope to courageous and free people everywhere; and

WHEREAS, Dangers to the free world center not only on the growing threat of terrorism, but also on the possibility that Iran may acquire nuclear weaponry or acquire the means to quickly obtain nuclear weaponry; and

WHEREAS, Leaders of Iran have expressed the desire to harm or destroy Israel; Iran's policies constitute an existential threat to the balance of power in the Middle East; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we reaffirm our solidarity with the State of Israel in the midst of these growing international crises; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to the President of the United States, the United States Secretary of State, the members of the Illinois congressional delegation, and the Israeli Ambassador to the United States.
