2 | | WHEREAS, Sports participation has become a part of American |
3 | | life and has been ingrained into the consciousness of society; |
4 | | and

5 | | WHEREAS, There must be officials to enforce the rules of |
6 | | the game and judge potential disputes between participants on |
7 | | the field; and

8 | | WHEREAS, Many officials volunteer their time or receive |
9 | | only minimal compensation; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Many officials participate out of a sheer love of |
11 | | the game and to teach children who play the game valuable |
12 | | lessons, such as sportsmanship, working as a team, and working |
13 | | within the rules of the game to achieve a common goal; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Many officials are cross-trained to officiate |
15 | | multiple sports; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Sports officials must make split-second |
17 | | decisions, often under pressure; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, Proper officiating reduces the risk of sports |
19 | | injuries; and
