2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John "Jack" L. Hoff of Waukegan, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on August 1, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jack was born on September 8, 1926; he attended | ||||||
6 | Immaculate Conception Grade School, and, in 1944, he joined the | ||||||
7 | United States Air Force, serving as a crew chief on B-29s; he | ||||||
8 | married Eda Ramacci in 1945; for a short time, he played | ||||||
9 | semi-pro football for the Waukegan Merchants; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Jack joined his father, Clarence, on the Waukegan | ||||||
11 | police force in 1949 and stayed there until 1976; he started as | ||||||
12 | a patrolman, walking a beat and driving a motorcycle; he served | ||||||
13 | as the night shift commander of the detective bureau, became a | ||||||
14 | life-time master pistol marksman with the National Rifle | ||||||
15 | Association, and served as the department training officer; he | ||||||
16 | and his brother, Larry, achieved a first in Waukegan police | ||||||
17 | history when they were promoted to captain together, finishing | ||||||
18 | the examination in first and second place; in 1969, the | ||||||
19 | Exchange Club of Waukegan named Captain Hoff the Outstanding | ||||||
20 | Law Enforcement Officer of Lake County; his oldest son, Ralph, | ||||||
21 | joined his father with the Waukegan police department in 1973; | ||||||
22 | in 1976, he retired from the police department to become the | ||||||
23 | security chief of Lakehurst Mall; and

1 | WHEREAS, Jack served the city of Waukegan as a 7th ward | ||||||
2 | alderman; he founded the Captain's Security Corporation in | ||||||
3 | 1980, and the company is still in business in Waukegan; his | ||||||
4 | hobbies included baseball, boating, and driving his 1963 Falcon | ||||||
5 | convertible, restored by his son, Steve; he also enjoyed trap | ||||||
6 | shooting, however, his passion was golf; he was a member of | ||||||
7 | Glen Flora Country Club, and, on July 3, 1999, he accomplished | ||||||
8 | one of golf's rare feats by shooting his age of 72; he also had | ||||||
9 | 5 hole in ones through the years; he was a member of St. Dismas | ||||||
10 | Church, CCKC, Northbrook, a former President of the Waukegan | ||||||
11 | Police Association, and a member of the Waukegan Police Pension | ||||||
12 | Board; and

13 | WHEREAS, Jack was preceded in death by his parents, and his | ||||||
14 | brother, Lawrence; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Jack was the beloved husband of Eda; the loving | ||||||
16 | father of Ralph Hoff, Steve Hoff, and Susan (Robert) Horrom; | ||||||
17 | the dear grandfather of Kris, Kelli, Natalie, and Stephanie; 7 | ||||||
18 | great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; | ||||||
19 | therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
22 | John "Jack" L. Hoff, and extend our sincere condolences to his |

1 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
2 | further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to the family of John "Jack" L. Hoff as an expression | ||||||
