2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Eugene "Gene" C. Crivello, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on June 4, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Eugene Crivello was born on June 17, 1919 in | ||||||
6 | Alton; his parents were Michael A. and Mary Crivello; he first | ||||||
7 | married Dolores Smith and later married Josephine DeBacco; they | ||||||
8 | both preceded him in death; he married Virginia Ryrie on | ||||||
9 | November 25, 2000; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Eugene Crivello was a veteran of World War II, | ||||||
11 | serving in the United States Army Air Corps and attained the | ||||||
12 | rank of Master Sergeant; 3 years of his service were spent at | ||||||
13 | the Prisque Isle Air Base in Maine and a year and a half was | ||||||
14 | spent in Keflavik, Iceland; he served as a supply sergeant, | ||||||
15 | provost sergeant, and Chief of the Base fire and crash | ||||||
16 | department; he was also attached to the Air and Sea Rescue | ||||||
17 | Division; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Eugene Crivello was always proud of the fact that | ||||||
19 | he was the first senior citizen to serve as a page in the | ||||||
20 | Illinois General Assembly; he was also proud to have taken the | ||||||
21 | Foster Grandparents to several counties during his work for the | ||||||
22 | Economic Opportunity Commission; and

1 | WHEREAS, Eugene Crivello worked for Wohl Shoe Company in | ||||||
2 | the early 1940s and again after being discharged in 1945; in | ||||||
3 | 1957, he was hired by the Central Hardware Company, where he | ||||||
4 | rose to the rank of Personnel Director and eventually became | ||||||
5 | manager of the Alton store in 1968; he was later hired by Ruth | ||||||
6 | Wilderman to serve as her assistant, running the Alton branch | ||||||
7 | of the American Cancer Society as director of 6 counties; when | ||||||
8 | the ACS closed their office on Henry Street several years | ||||||
9 | later, he became the Director of the American Lung Association, | ||||||
10 | serving in that position until his retirement in 1984; and

11 | WHEREAS, Following his retirement, Eugene Crivello | ||||||
12 | immediately went to work as a volunteer at Saint Anthony's | ||||||
13 | Health Center at the request of Bill Kessler and accumulated | ||||||
14 | nearly 3,000 hours of volunteer service; he also served as | ||||||
15 | President of the Alton Godfrey Rotary Club and as a Paul Harris | ||||||
16 | Fellow; and

17 | WHEREAS, Eugene Crivello was preceded in death by his | ||||||
18 | parents; his first wife, Dolores; his second wife, Josephine; 7 | ||||||
19 | brothers, Anthony, Gasper, Willie, Joseph (Dutz), Leo (Pip), | ||||||
20 | Francis, and George; 4 sisters, Virginia, Lucia, Mona, and | ||||||
21 | Josie; 2 sons-in-law, Jim Allison and Gary Wright; and a | ||||||
22 | stepson, Nathan Adkins; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Eugene Crivello is survived by his wife, Virginia; | ||||||
2 | 3 daughters, Pamela Allison, Becky Adkins (Rocky), and Gina | ||||||
3 | Peipert (Tim); a son, Denis Crivello; 4 grandchildren, Ann | ||||||
4 | Marie Johnson (Brad), Andrew Wright (Kim), Jamie Freleng | ||||||
5 | (Nick), and Adam Peipert (Alyson); 4 great-grandchildren, | ||||||
6 | Olivia and Mason Johnson and Max and Hattie Jean Wright; a | ||||||
7 | step-grandson, Taylor Adkins; 3 step-children, Ed Ryrie | ||||||
8 | (Nancy), Sarah Davis (Jim), and Janet Biermann (Steve); 9 | ||||||
9 | step-grandchildren; and 6 step great-grandchildren; therefore, | ||||||
10 | be it

11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
13 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Eugene "Gene" C. | ||||||
14 | Crivello; and be it further
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of Eugene Crivello as an expression of | ||||||
17 | our sympathy.
