2 | WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP was founded in Chicago on June 17, | ||||||
3 | 1914 to commercialize Jesse
Adams Dubbs's thermal cracking | ||||||
4 | process, which was the foundation for the modern oil refining
| ||||||
5 | industry; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, More than 12,000 patents earned by Honeywell UOP | ||||||
7 | have helped to develop the world's
petroleum, automotive, | ||||||
8 | transportation, and petrochemical industries; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP pioneered dozens of revolutionary | ||||||
10 | technologies including catalytic
polymerization, fluid | ||||||
11 | catalytic cracking, alkylation, isomerization, platforming, | ||||||
12 | Parex, Oleflex,
Uniflex, and methanol-to-olefins technology; | ||||||
13 | and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP commercialized synthetic zeolites | ||||||
15 | as adsorbents, catalysts, and technologies
to remediate | ||||||
16 | nuclear contamination; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP pioneered environmental | ||||||
18 | breakthroughs including desulfurized diesel fuel,
lead-free | ||||||
19 | gasoline, the catalytic converter, biodegradable detergents, | ||||||
20 | and jet and diesel fuel
made from renewable sources; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP has developed technologies to | ||||||
2 | ensure the economical use of natural gas
resources and develop | ||||||
3 | the global petrochemicals industry; and

4 | WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP has contributed faculty, guest | ||||||
5 | lecturers, and academic support to the
Chemistry and Chemical | ||||||
6 | Engineering Departments of Northwestern University since 1931; | ||||||
7 | and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP employs more than 5,000 people | ||||||
9 | worldwide, including nearly 2,000 in Illinois; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP's Des Plaines headquarters - an | ||||||
11 | important part of Honeywell's
advanced technology portfolio, | ||||||
12 | with nearly half of which is linked to improving energy | ||||||
13 | efficiency - is
today the industry's foremost center of | ||||||
14 | research and development, the leading source of
innovation for | ||||||
15 | the world's oil and gas industry, and one of America's greatest | ||||||
16 | commercial
ambassadors; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we proclaim June 17, | ||||||
19 | 2014 as Honeywell UOP Day for its century of service to the | ||||||
20 | people of the State, the country, and the world; and be it | ||||||
21 | further
