2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Herbert R. "Kip" Pohl, Jr., formerly of | ||||||
4 | La Grange Park, who passed away on March 30, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Herbert Pohl, Jr. was born in 1942 and raised in | ||||||
6 | La Grange Park; he graduated from Lyons Township High School in | ||||||
7 | 1960 and studied journalism at Southern Illinois University | ||||||
8 | before returning to La Grange Park to take over the | ||||||
9 | family-owned news publication; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Herbert Pohl, Jr. founded and published The La | ||||||
11 | Grange Sun Newspapers, which served the western suburbs; after | ||||||
12 | selling the newspapers, he became head of acquisitions with | ||||||
13 | Copley Newspapers; later he was the President and Chief | ||||||
14 | Executive Officer of Homes International magazine; in | ||||||
15 | retirement he started Iowa City Entertainment, Inc., a | ||||||
16 | multi-business hospitality company; he was also an owner of | ||||||
17 | Pancheros Mexican Grill, a chain of more than 65 restaurants; | ||||||
18 | and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Herbert Pohl, Jr. served his community in numerous | ||||||
20 | ways; he was Chairman of the Board for the YMCA and raised over | ||||||
21 | $7,000,000 for the organization's La Grange Park chapter; he | ||||||
22 | was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in La Grange |

1 | Park, and then Grace Episcopal Church in Hinsdale; he was a | ||||||
2 | member of the Kiwanis and headed a division of the La Grange | ||||||
3 | Park Pet Parade and maintained a spotless record of perfect | ||||||
4 | attendance at all of his children and grandchildren's sports | ||||||
5 | and extracurricular events; he was voted "Man of the Year" by | ||||||
6 | the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce in 1982; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Herbert Pohl, Jr. was a tremendous cook, an avid | ||||||
8 | gardner, and a collector of fine arts; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Herbert Pohl, Jr. is survived by his wife of over | ||||||
10 | 45 years, Cheryl; his sons, Jeffrey (Kelly) and James (Anna); | ||||||
11 | his daughter, Jennifer; his grandchildren, Griffin, Reagan, | ||||||
12 | Garrett, and Alexandra; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, | ||||||
13 | be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
16 | Herbert R. "Kip" Pohl, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
17 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
18 | it further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Herbert Pohl, Jr. as an expression | ||||||
21 | of our deepest sympathy.
