2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz of Chicago, passed | ||||||
4 | away on March 4, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz was born on the North Side to | ||||||
6 | Frank (Ephraim) and Cynthia (Tzivia) Moscowitz; he attended | ||||||
7 | Bais Yaakov, a local Jewish day school and he followed his | ||||||
8 | father's footsteps, studying at yeshivahs in Montreal, Canada | ||||||
9 | and Brooklyn; he was among the young students selected to serve | ||||||
10 | as senior students at the Chabad yeshivah in Brunoy, France; he | ||||||
11 | married Esther Rochel Aronow and returned to Chicago; he joined | ||||||
12 | the Congregation Anshei Lubavitch and founded the Tannenbaum | ||||||
13 | Chabad House, serving Jewish students at Northwestern | ||||||
14 | University; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz was the regional director of | ||||||
16 | Lubavitch-Chabad of Illinois, who spearheaded the growth of | ||||||
17 | Chabad-Lubavitch centers to nearly 40 locations in 21 Illinois | ||||||
18 | cities, with schools and services for seniors and children with | ||||||
19 | special needs; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz helped open a new synagogue on | ||||||
21 | Chicago's far North Side in the summer of 1995, Bais Menachem | ||||||
22 | Nusach Ari, and in 2000, he moved his family to Northbrook to |

| |||||||
1 | open a new Chabad center; most recently he oversaw the opening | ||||||
2 | of a new Chabad center in Carbondale; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz was active in Jewish communal | ||||||
4 | leadership on a national and global level; he was Chairman of | ||||||
5 | the executive committee of the Chicago Rabbinical Council, a | ||||||
6 | member of the executive committee of Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch - | ||||||
7 | the educational arm of Chabad-Lubavitch, and was a visible | ||||||
8 | leader at the International Conference of Chabad Emissaries; he | ||||||
9 | was a regular at Hanukkah menorah-lighting ceremonies at Daley | ||||||
10 | Plaza; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz is survived by his wife, Esther; | ||||||
12 | his children, Shterna Sara Newman, Rabbi Meir Shimon Moscowitz, | ||||||
13 | Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Moscowitz, Rabbi Yehoshua Zelik Moscowitz, | ||||||
14 | Rivkah Sternberg, Chana Teldon, Rabbi Leibel Moscowitz, and | ||||||
15 | Chaya Mushka Hecht; his parents; and his brothers, Rabbi Moshe | ||||||
16 | Moscowitz, Eli Moscowitz, and Rabbi Mendel Moscowitz; | ||||||
17 | therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz, and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
21 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
22 | further
