SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Arlene M. Carl of McHenry, who passed away on January 17, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Carl was born on May 18, 1921 in Pocahontas, Iowa; her parents were John M. and Helen (nee Welsh) Flaherty; she married Bob Carl on December 26, 1942 in Joplin, Missouri; and

WHEREAS, Prior to World War II, Arlene Carl moved to Chicago, where she worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company as an operator and supervisor; after marrying, she and her husband purchased their first and second homes in Des Plaines before moving to McHenry, where she resided for the rest of her life; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Carl was a mainstay at the Des Plaines Theater and at Spiegler's Department Store; after moving to McHenry, she and her husband volunteered at the Centegra Medical Center for nearly 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Carl was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in McHenry and a charter member of St. Stephen's Protomartyr Church in Des Plaines; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Carl was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents; her brother, Tommy Flaherty; and her sister, Jean Renshaw; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Carl is survived by her children, Tom (Dianne) Carl, John (Ronda) Carl, and Bill (Cindy) Carl; her grandchildren, Jeff (Tamra) Carl, Scott Carl, Carrie (John) Alkire, Mike Carl, Andy (Jamie) Carl, Jackie (Rob) Aurelius, Billy Oaks, Christina (Jeff) Piper, and Katie Carl; and her great-grandchildren, Jackson and Olivia Carl, Johnny, Haylie, Matthew, and Emylie Alkire, Avery Aurelius, Victoria and Sophie Oaks, and Gabe, Brooks, and Lauren Piper; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Arlene M. Carl; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Arlene Carl as an expression of our sympathy.
