SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Eleanore V. Reid of McHenry, who passed away on September 2, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid was born on July 10, 1923 in Chicago; her parents were Harry and Susan (Frett) Rankin; she married Edwin F. Reid, Jr. on May 7, 1942 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McHenry; and

WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid graduated from McHenry High School with the Class of 1941 and served on the reunion committee every 5 years through its 65th reunion; and

WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid served as a nurse's aide during World War II; she also worked in a defense factory in Woodstock; and

WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid has been a member of St. Patrick's Church in McHenry since she was 8 years old and was a member of the St. Patrick's Ladies Guild; she was employed as a secretary at St. Patrick's Church for 25 years under Fathers Coakley, Pettit, Guzzardo, and McKitrick; she also served as PTA president and was a Cub Scout den mother; and

WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid volunteered for numerous causes; she drove cancer patients to chemotherapy for 11 years, headed Red Cross drives for the City of McHenry, and served on the McHenry County Board for 7 years; she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 491 for 64 years, and was a past president and headed many committees; she was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary No. 4600; she served as an instructor and chaperone for the Viscount Drum and Bugle Corps for 11 years; she also volunteered for Senior Services in McHenry as a receptionist and exercise instructor; and

WHEREAS, Eleanore loved to travel, and she traveled extensively in the United States, Greece, Ireland, England, Germany, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico; she also enjoyed Christmas, bowling, reading, golf, needlework, playing dominoes, having lunch with her sorority sisters, and spending time with her family and extended family; and

WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her stepmother; her 6 sisters-in-law; and her 5 brothers-in-law; and

WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid is survived by her children, Edwin F. "Bud" (Vikee) Reid III, Bernadine (Michael) Mould, Charlene (Thomas) Reichert, Ronald Reid, Acceneth "Cindy" Bateman, and Noelle (Terry) Reid-Andrews; her son-in-law, Hugh Bateman; her grandchildren, Amanda (Kevin), Shane (Megan), Lanna (Andrew), Grace (Michael), Ean (Ashley), Paige, Debbie, Brittany, Shannon (Josh), Trae, Adam (Leah), Alisha, Nicholas, Erik (Elizabeth), and Christopher; her great-grandchildren, Martin, Jemma (Will), Miranda, Fiona, Isabella, and Katelyn; her great-great-granddaughters, Sophia and Mya; her foster children, Shirley Epperhart and Patricia Harris; her son, adopted in her heart, Kelly (Carole) Low; foreign exchange students and their families, Paulo (Daisy) Lopes and his children, Daniella and Marcelo and grandchild, Eduarda, and Georgia (Evripidis) Panagopolou and her children, Giannis, Panayiotis, Konstantino, and Stefanos; her brother-in-law, B.H. (Mary Rose) Reid; her sisters-in-law, Lois Jungck, Dinah Keeley, and Anna Wimmer; and her many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Eleanore V. Reid; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Eleanore Reid as an expression of our sympathy.
