| 2 | | WHEREAS, Obesity in our nation has led to an epidemic rise |
| 3 | | in the number people with heart disease and heart problems; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention |
| 5 | | estimates that, this year, nearly 600,000 Americans will die |
| 6 | | from heart disease - nearly 1 in 4 deaths - and nearly 715,000 |
| 7 | | Americans will have their first, and for some, their last heart |
| 8 | | attack; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, A change in diet and exercising more has been |
| 10 | | proven to prevent harmful heart conditions, the use of AEDs and |
| 11 | | proper administration of CPR has been proven to increase |
| 12 | | survival rates in victims of heart attacks; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, The American Heart Association formally endorsed |
| 14 | | CPR as a life-saving technique in 1963; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Since the inception of AEDs in 1947 on a |
| 16 | | 14-year-old patient, they have been used to save the lives of |
| 17 | | countless people; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, It is a priority of this body to raise awareness |
| 19 | | of the proper use and techniques for performing CPR and using |
| 20 | | AEDs in society at large; therefore, be it
