SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Judy Tucker of Chicago; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Judy Tucker was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on
5September 1, 1943, to Lovell and Dorothy Ellis; she moved with
6her family to Chicago and then to Markham; in 1972, she married
7Elishious Tucker; while raising her children, she attended
8Victor Business School in Evergreen Park; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Judy Tucker began her career as a public servant
10as an intern with U.S. Congressman Ralph Metcalfe Sr.; she then
11served as Congressman Metcalfe Sr.'s executive secretary and
12his congressional aide; Congressman Metcalfe Sr.'s son, Ralph,
13invited her to serve as executive secretary and office manager;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Judy Tucker held several positions with the City
16of Chicago; she was the personal aide for the Commission on
17Human Relations, the Secretary of Public Utilities and the
18Committee on Finance for Alderman Tyrone Kenner, office manager
19for Cook County Commissioner Jerry Butler, and executive
20secretary for Alderman Bobby Rush; she followed Alderman Bobby
21Rush to Washington, D.C. when he was elected congressman and
22she served in many key positions for him, most notably as

1Director of Constituent Service; she retired in September 2010
2after 38 years serving the public; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Judy Tucker loved to cook and garden and her
4dishes were highly anticipated by those at family, church, and
5work events; her office and garden were made serene by the
6greenery that flourished; she devoted much of her time to her
7church, serving on the Usher Board for over 20 years and
8supporting other church ministries in anyway she could; she was
9a faithful member of the Miracle House of Prayer Church; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Judy Tucker was preceded in death by her parents
11and her brother, Lovell Jr.; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Judy Tucker is survived by her husband, Elishious;
13her children, Harriet Pitts Thomas, William Pitts, Aaron Pitts,
14Rev. Michael Pitts (Carmen), and Dottie Hall; her siblings,
15Lydia Christian (Dorris) and Cedric Ellis (Kathy); her 18
16grandchildren; her 7 great-grandchildren; her very special
17sister friend, Doris Murray; and her many aunts, uncles,
18nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Judy Tucker, and we extend our sincere condolences to her
22family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
