2 | WHEREAS, It is important to recognize those who contributed | ||||||
3 | to the betterment of the State of Illinois
through public | ||||||
4 | service; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | ||||||
6 | Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals
who gave their | ||||||
7 | lives in the service of the State; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
9 | learn of the death of Casey J. Kohlmeier of Pontiac, who passed | ||||||
10 | away on October 30, 2013; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Casey Kohlmeier was born in Fairbury on June 5, | ||||||
12 | 1984 to Jeff and Keri Kohlmeier; he graduated from Pontiac | ||||||
13 | Township High School in 2002 and earned his Bachelors Degree in | ||||||
14 | Technical Management from DeVry University; he served his | ||||||
15 | country in the United States Air Force from 2002 to 2006, | ||||||
16 | receiving the Distinguished Graduate Award during technical | ||||||
17 | school at Lackland Air Force Base; he then served at Offut Air | ||||||
18 | Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska; he was awarded the Air Force | ||||||
19 | Commendation Medal, the Air Force Training Ribbon, the National | ||||||
20 | Defense Service Medal, the Air Force BMT Honor Graduate Ribbon, | ||||||
21 | the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon with device, the NCO | ||||||
22 | Professional Military Education Ribbon, the Air Force Good |

1 | Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Unit Award, and the Global War | ||||||
2 | on Terrorism Service Medal; he was named Airman of the Year in | ||||||
3 | 2005; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Casey Kohlmeier worked for the Pontiac Police | ||||||
5 | Department K9-Unit since January 2007; he received his training | ||||||
6 | certificate as a detective on the Livingston County Proactive | ||||||
7 | Unit; his K-9 patrol partner, Draco, who was his beloved | ||||||
8 | sidekick, was with him until the end; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Casey Kohlmeier was a board member of the Boys and | ||||||
10 | Girls Clubs of Livingston County and the Illinois Police | ||||||
11 | Benevolent and Protective Association; he was a member of | ||||||
12 | Saunemin Methodist Church; he earned his pilots license in the | ||||||
13 | past year; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Casey Kohlmeier was preceded in death by his | ||||||
15 | grandmother, Joan Gamble; and

16 | WHEREAS, Casey Kohlmeier is survived by his father, Jeff | ||||||
17 | (Tracey) Kohlmeier; his mother, Keri (Donny) Schmidt; his | ||||||
18 | step-father, Kyle Kociss; his maternal grandparents, Jim and | ||||||
19 | Kay Horrie; Lynne and James Kociss, Larry and Linda Schmidt, | ||||||
20 | and Ina Tjelle; his paternal grandparents, Eldon "Bud" and | ||||||
21 | Karen Kohlmeier, and Alvin Gamble; his girlfriend, Leslie | ||||||
22 | Alappattu; his brothers, Zach Kohlmeier and Jordan Kociss; and |

1 | his sisters, Lauren Kohlmeier and Ryli Schmidt; therefore, be | ||||||
2 | it

3 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
4 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES | ||||||
5 | CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of Interstate | ||||||
6 | 55 from Exit 197 near Pontiac to Exit 202 as the Officer Casey | ||||||
7 | J. Kohlmeier Memorial Highway; and be it further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
9 | is requested to erect at suitable locations,
consistent with | ||||||
10 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
11 | giving notice of the name; and be it further | ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
13 | presented to the family of Casey Kohlmeier, the
Pontiac Police | ||||||
14 | Department, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of | ||||||
15 | Transportation.
