Amends the School Code. Allows a teacher who teaches physical education or health education in the public schools to meet the requirements for highly qualified status that apply to teachers who teach in core academic subjects pursuant to the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
5 | | 21B-200 as follows: |
6 | | (105 ILCS 5/21B-200 new) |
7 | | Sec. 21B-200. Highly qualified teachers; physical and |
8 | | health education. A teacher who teaches physical education or |
9 | | health education in the public schools may meet the |
10 | | requirements for highly qualified status that apply to teachers |
11 | | who teach in core academic subjects pursuant to the federal No |
12 | | Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
