Amends the Illinois Municipal Code. Provides that retired police officers may serve summons for violations of ordinances occurring within their municipalities (currently, only active duty police officers may do so). Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by |
5 | | changing Section 1-2-11 as follows:
|
6 | | (65 ILCS 5/1-2-11) (from Ch. 24, par. 1-2-11)
|
7 | | Sec. 1-2-11.
(a) A sheriff may serve any process or make |
8 | | any arrest in a
municipality or a part of a municipality |
9 | | located in the county in which the
sheriff was elected that any |
10 | | officer of that municipality is authorized to
make under this |
11 | | Code or any ordinance passed under this Code.

12 | | (b) Active duty or retired police Police officers may serve |
13 | | summons for violations of ordinances
occurring within their |
14 | | municipalities.
|
15 | | (c) In addition to the powers
stated in Section 8.1a of the |
16 | | Housing Authorities Act, in counties with a
population of |
17 | | 3,000,000 or more inhabitants, members of a housing
authority |
18 | | police force may serve process for forcible entry and detainer
|
19 | | actions commenced by that housing authority and may execute |
20 | | orders of
possession for that housing authority.
