2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the staff and | ||||||
4 | administration of the Technology Center of DuPage on the | ||||||
5 | occasion of the Center's 40th anniversary; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Technology Center of DuPage seeks to provide | ||||||
7 | an educational environment that supports and encourages | ||||||
8 | individual learning styles, develops occupational skills, | ||||||
9 | fosters professionalism, promotes academic growth, and assists | ||||||
10 | students in discovering their potential; the Technology Center | ||||||
11 | of DuPage also helps students to prepare for a successful | ||||||
12 | transition to post-secondary education and their careers; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, The Technology Center of DuPage opened in its | ||||||
14 | current Addison facility in late December during the 1974-1975 | ||||||
15 | school year, under the acronym DAVEA (DuPage Area Vocational | ||||||
16 | Education Authority); the DuPage Area Vocational Education | ||||||
17 | Authority was developed to provide DuPage high school students | ||||||
18 | with advanced vocational education programs, preparing them | ||||||
19 | for skilled entry-level employment after high school; a | ||||||
20 | student's grade was based on his or her performance of | ||||||
21 | occupational and workplace skills; and

22 | WHEREAS, When the State of Illinois reorganized its |

1 | vocational education delivery system in 1983, a new regional | ||||||
2 | governing body, the DuPage Area Occupational Education System, | ||||||
3 | was formed and the DAVEA acronym became the name "Davea Career | ||||||
4 | Center"; the Davea Career Center's focus was still on | ||||||
5 | vocational education, but with the philosophy that a student | ||||||
6 | was being prepared for an evolving career path, rather than a | ||||||
7 | job; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Due to the explosion of technology in the | ||||||
9 | workplace, an increasingly competitive global marketplace, and | ||||||
10 | a greater demand for highly-skilled and capable employees, more | ||||||
11 | Davea Career Center students were continuing their education | ||||||
12 | after high school through college courses, technical school | ||||||
13 | programs, or advanced industry-based training; to reflect | ||||||
14 | these changes, the Davea Career Center's name was changed to | ||||||
15 | the "Technology Center of DuPage" in 1998; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, After 40 years of service, the staff and | ||||||
17 | administration of the Technology Center of DuPage continue to | ||||||
18 | prepare students for the next step after graduation, usually a | ||||||
19 | combination of post-secondary education and work, and to expect | ||||||
20 | life-long learning as the key to a solid career path; the | ||||||
21 | Center's programs also offer students the opportunity to earn | ||||||
22 | transferable college credit concurrently with high school | ||||||
23 | elective credit; and

1 | WHEREAS, The staff and administration of the Technology | ||||||
2 | Center of DuPage serve as models of hard work, integrity, and | ||||||
3 | dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, | ||||||
4 | be it

5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
6 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
7 | we congratulate the staff and administration of the Technology | ||||||
8 | Center of DuPage on the occasion of the Center's 40th | ||||||
9 | anniversary and wish them continued success in their future | ||||||
10 | endeavors; and be it further

11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the Technology Center of DuPage as a symbol of our | ||||||
13 | esteem and respect.
