2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to honor Kane County Sheriff Patrick Perez | ||||||
4 | for his many decades of dedicated service to his community as | ||||||
5 | he prepares for his retirement; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Sheriff Patrick Perez is a lifelong resident of | ||||||
7 | Kane County; he comes from a law enforcement and public safety | ||||||
8 | family with more than 80 years of experience, including his | ||||||
9 | late father, Pete Perez, who served as an Aurora police officer | ||||||
10 | and as Kane County Undersheriff; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Sheriff Patrick Perez joined the Kane County | ||||||
12 | Sheriff's Office in 1992; throughout the years, he achieved the | ||||||
13 | rank of Sergeant while serving as Supervisor of the Special | ||||||
14 | Operations Unit, member of the Gang and Drug Enforcement Unit, | ||||||
15 | Supervisor of Patrol Division, Supervisor of the | ||||||
16 | Investigations Division, Supervisor of the Civil Division, and | ||||||
17 | member of the Illinois Attorney General's Gang Task Force; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Sheriff Patrick Perez was involved in a joint | ||||||
19 | FBI-Kane County 1,250-pound marijuana bust, the largest in the | ||||||
20 | Department's history; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Sheriff Patrick Perez was sworn in as Kane County |

| |||||||
1 | Sheriff on December 1, 2006; he was subsequently re-elected to | ||||||
2 | the position in 2010; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Sheriff Patrick Perez raised accountability in | ||||||
4 | the Kane County Jail, reduced lawsuits against personnel and | ||||||
5 | the Department, and expanded outreach services; he established | ||||||
6 | mandatory random drug testing for deputies, redeployed | ||||||
7 | personnel to place more deputies on the street, and expanded | ||||||
8 | community policing and outreach to the community; he also | ||||||
9 | established a full time crime analyst, resulting in a much more | ||||||
10 | proactive approach to law enforcement and reduction in crime; | ||||||
11 | and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Sheriff Patrick Perez successfully spearheaded | ||||||
13 | the move of the Sheriff's Office and Jail in August of 2008, | ||||||
14 | including 511 inmates, without incident; this effort also | ||||||
15 | involved 320 employees being relocated without interruption of | ||||||
16 | service to the public; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Sheriff Patrick Perez is a 2007 graduate of the | ||||||
18 | Southern Police Institute Chief Executive Leadership class; he | ||||||
19 | is also a member of the National Sheriffs' Institute Class of | ||||||
20 | 2007; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Sheriff Patrick Perez was nominated for the Kane | ||||||
22 | County Officer of the Year award in 1998; he has received 2 |

| |||||||
1 | Meritorious Service Awards, a Leadership Award, and a Life | ||||||
2 | Saving Award; in 2008, he received the statewide Hector Jordan | ||||||
3 | Lifetime Achievement Award; in 2014, he was awarded the Pat | ||||||
4 | Valdez Award in honor of his exceptional service in the support | ||||||
5 | and promotion of the Kane County Sheriff's Fraternal Order of | ||||||
6 | Police Lodge #14; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Sheriff Patrick Perez is a past coach, co-founder, | ||||||
8 | and board member of Aurora Superstars Youth Tackle Football, | ||||||
9 | now in its 15th year; the league provides guidance for youths | ||||||
10 | ages 8 through 12 and has grown from 200 to nearly 400 | ||||||
11 | participants; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Sheriff Patrick Perez served as Co-Chairman of the | ||||||
13 | CASA Kane County Advisory Committee, fundraising co-chair for | ||||||
14 | Fox Valley United Way, and was appointed to the Illinois | ||||||
15 | Criminal Justice Information Authority Board; he founded the | ||||||
16 | Sheriff's Annual Car and Motorcycle Show, raising over $80,000 | ||||||
17 | for various charities; he is also involved with Easter Seals, | ||||||
18 | Disabled American Veterans, the Daniel P. Figgins Memorial | ||||||
19 | Foundation, CASA, Special Olympics Illinois, the Pediatric | ||||||
20 | Brain Tumor Foundation, the Fox Valley United Way, and | ||||||
21 | Make-A-Wish Illinois; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Sheriff Patrick Perez and his wife, Terrie, are | ||||||
23 | the parents of Stephan and Gabe and the grandparents of |

1 | Bentlee; therefore, be it
| ||||||
2 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
3 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
4 | we honor and congratulate Kane County Sheriff Patrick Perez for | ||||||
5 | his service and achievements on behalf of the residents of Kane | ||||||
6 | County and wish him a long and happy retirement; and be it | ||||||
7 | further

8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to Sheriff Patrick Perez as an expression of our | ||||||
10 | esteem and respect.
