2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Barb Nafziger on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of her retirement from the McLean County Coroner's | ||||||
5 | Office; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Barb Nafziger began her career with the McLean | ||||||
7 | County Coroner's Office in November of 1995 as a part-time | ||||||
8 | Deputy under Coroner Dan Brady; she was promoted to full-time | ||||||
9 | Deputy Coroner, then Lead Deputy Coroner, and finally Chief | ||||||
10 | Deputy Coroner, where she has worked under the direction of | ||||||
11 | current Coroner Beth Kimmerling for the past 11 and ½ years; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, This position grants Barb Nafziger the | ||||||
14 | opportunity to make presentations and participate in several | ||||||
15 | organizations; however, her main interests while in the office | ||||||
16 | have been in the areas of mental illness and dementia; she has | ||||||
17 | been actively involved for many years in the National Alliance | ||||||
18 | for Mental Health and McLean County's Recovery Court and | ||||||
19 | Advisory Board; she was a facilitator for the Survivors of | ||||||
20 | Suicide support group and has provided lectures emphasizing | ||||||
21 | coping mechanisms for those families with loved ones | ||||||
22 | experiencing some type of dementia; she has pursued formal | ||||||
23 | training in the areas of Suicide Investigation and Police |

1 | Response to Mental Illness; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Through the National Catholic Ministry to the | ||||||
3 | Bereaved, Barb Nafziger has been trained in the advanced skills | ||||||
4 | of pastoral bereavement counseling and has provided emotional | ||||||
5 | and psychological support to many survivors in the McLean | ||||||
6 | County area;
she has been a nationally certified Death | ||||||
7 | Investigator since October 2001, and successfully passed | ||||||
8 | Illinois's mandatory Lead Homicide Investigator class; her | ||||||
9 | areas of expertise include Disaster Response, Forensic | ||||||
10 | Anthropology, and Reconstruction of Shooting Incidents; within | ||||||
11 | the office, she was the liaison to the Southern Illinois Child | ||||||
12 | Death Investigation Task Force, and managed the highly | ||||||
13 | successful Internship program as well as the Alzheimer's Brain | ||||||
14 | Research project; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Prior to joining the coroner's office, Barb | ||||||
16 | Nafziger had over 15 years of experience in the health care | ||||||
17 | field; she also served on the Board of Directors for the | ||||||
18 | Livingston County Family Care Center, and was a Court Appointed | ||||||
19 | Special Advocate for McLean County; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Barb Nafziger was raised in Pontiac; she attended | ||||||
21 | Parkland College and Heartland Community College, and has over | ||||||
22 | 60 hours of college credit in the areas of psychology, medical | ||||||
23 | terminology, sociology, and anatomy and physiology; she is |

1 | married to John Nafziger, and they have 5 children; they serve | ||||||
2 | their community as Eucharistic Ministers at Holy Trinity | ||||||
3 | Catholic Parish in Bloomington; in her spare time, she enjoys | ||||||
4 | spending time with her grandchildren and relaxing at the family | ||||||
5 | lake house; therefore, be it

6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
7 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
8 | we congratulate Barb Nafziger on her retirement from the McLean | ||||||
9 | County Coroner's Office, and wish her the best in all her | ||||||
10 | future endeavors; and be it further

11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to Barb Nafziger as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
13 | respect.
