2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Kazimiera Bober on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of her 40th anniversary of her immigration to the | ||||||
5 | United States and the 36th anniversary of starting her | ||||||
6 | business; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Dreaming of a better life for herself and her | ||||||
8 | children, Kazimiera Bober immigrated to the United States from | ||||||
9 | Poland 40 years ago; after years of working odd jobs and | ||||||
10 | struggling financially, she decided to pursue something in | ||||||
11 | which she excelled, which was cooking; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, In December of 1982, Kazimiera Bober opened her | ||||||
13 | deli and began to offer home cooking to neighborhood customers; | ||||||
14 | she would cook at night and sell her ethnic cuisine during the | ||||||
15 | day; through her hard work, perseverance, and dedication, she | ||||||
16 | was able to create a successful business; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, As her clientele grew, Kazimiera Bober began to | ||||||
18 | recognize that pierogi were her best-selling items; after years | ||||||
19 | of showcasing her products at neighborhood festivals, she was | ||||||
20 | asked to participate at the Taste of Chicago, one of the | ||||||
21 | largest food festivals in the country; it was also at that time | ||||||
22 | that she won the first of four consecutive awards for "The Best |

1 | Pierogi in Chicago"; through her new-found acclaim, she was | ||||||
2 | able to get her pierogi into some of the largest supermarkets | ||||||
3 | in the Chicagoland area; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Kazimiera Bober was chosen by Newsweek magazine as | ||||||
5 | one of the top 15 entrepreneurs who "create exquisite food with | ||||||
6 | the finest ingredients and whose product transcends ethnic | ||||||
7 | orientation"; her pierogi have been sampled by dignitaries such | ||||||
8 | as President Bill Clinton, Vice President Dick Cheney, Mayor of | ||||||
9 | Chicago Richard M. Daley, Illinois Governor George Ryan, and | ||||||
10 | Illinois State Representatives Maria Antonia "Toni" Berrios | ||||||
11 | and Robert F. Martwick; her pierogi were also the first ever to | ||||||
12 | be served aboard United Airlines, the biggest airline in the | ||||||
13 | world; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Kazimiera Bober, with the help of her children and | ||||||
15 | now grandchildren, is successfully fulfilling her "American | ||||||
16 | Dream"; therefore, be it
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we congratulate Kazimiera Bober on the occasion of her 40th | ||||||
20 | anniversary of her immigration to the United States and the | ||||||
21 | 36th anniversary of starting her business and wish her | ||||||
22 | continued success and happiness in the future; and be it | ||||||
23 | further
