2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Susan Davenport | ||||||
4 | Smith on the occasion of her 60th birthday; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Susan Smith attended Northern Illinois University | ||||||
6 | and the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy, and she was | ||||||
7 | an honor student at both institutions; she completed pharmacy | ||||||
8 | school in 1977 and worked as a Registered Clinical Pharmacist | ||||||
9 | at the University of Illinois and Children's Memorial Hospital | ||||||
10 | for more than 30 years, where she served as the first HIV/AIDS | ||||||
11 | and first chemotherapy pharmacist; she retired in 2010; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, While in pharmacy school, Susan Smith met Horace | ||||||
13 | Smith, who was a medical student and they have been happily | ||||||
14 | married since 1976; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Susan Smith has been a member of Apostolic Faith | ||||||
16 | Church since 1976 and became First Lady in 1980 when her | ||||||
17 | husband became Pastor; in addition to being the First Lady of | ||||||
18 | Apostolic Faith Church, she is the church administrator, | ||||||
19 | overseeing the day-to-day business of the 3,000-member church; | ||||||
20 | and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Together, the Smiths' humanitarian endeavors |

| |||||||
1 | reach beyond the United States to support missions in all parts | ||||||
2 | of Africa through their partnership with World Vision; Susan, | ||||||
3 | along with her husband, travels extensively to Africa to view | ||||||
4 | first-hand the devastation caused by the HIV/AIDS pandemic; | ||||||
5 | under their leadership, Apostolic Faith Church provides | ||||||
6 | resources for drilling wells to bring fresh water, which is the | ||||||
7 | number one need in some areas; they also bring food, clothing, | ||||||
8 | education, medical assistance, and other goods and services; | ||||||
9 | the Smiths, along with their church, have sponsored over 2,000 | ||||||
10 | children through World Vision; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Susan Smith's awards include La Rabida Children's | ||||||
12 | Hospital 100 Big Hearts for Young Heroes and the Children's | ||||||
13 | Memorial Hospital Earl J. Frederick Award for Outstanding Team; | ||||||
14 | and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Susan Smith and her husband reside in Chicago; | ||||||
16 | they have 3 daughters, Lauren Elrod, Rachel Smith, and Emily | ||||||
17 | Green; 3 sons-in-law, Brian Elrod, Patrick Green, and Courtney | ||||||
18 | Horton; and 4 grandchildren, Lillian Elrod, Addison Elrod, | ||||||
19 | Joshua Horton, and Caleb Green; therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
21 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
22 | we congratulate Susan Davenport Smith on the occasion of her | ||||||
23 | 60th birthday and wish her many more wonderful years; and be it |
