2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the administration and | ||||||
4 | staff of the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs on the occasion of | ||||||
5 | the organization's 50th anniversary; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1964, the enduring mission | ||||||
7 | of the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs has been to combat | ||||||
8 | poverty, racism, and anti-Semitism in partnership with | ||||||
9 | Chicago's diverse communities; its work, in reaching across | ||||||
10 | faiths, races, and classes to create dialogue and tangible | ||||||
11 | results, has been an inspiring presence in the Chicagoland | ||||||
12 | area; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, During its 50 years of existence, the Jewish | ||||||
14 | Council on Urban Affairs has facilitated the development and | ||||||
15 | preservation of thousands of units of affordable housing, | ||||||
16 | advocated for public policies that address the root causes of | ||||||
17 | poverty, and educated and mobilized a Jewish constituency to | ||||||
18 | create a more just city; its work with low-income communities | ||||||
19 | and communities of color has fostered deep understanding and | ||||||
20 | trust with partner organizations; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, While the exact issues and challenges in Chicago | ||||||
22 | have changed, poverty, racism, and anti-Semitism continue to |

1 | run rampant; through its work, the Jewish Council on Urban | ||||||
2 | Affairs continues to organize the Jewish community to be a | ||||||
3 | powerful partner for justice and guarantees the future of this | ||||||
4 | important work with its teen social justice program, Or Tzedek; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Guided by prophetic Jewish principles, the Jewish | ||||||
7 | Council on Urban Affairs has been committed to eradicating the | ||||||
8 | root causes of social and economic injustice and to creating | ||||||
9 | positive systemic change for Chicago's most vulnerable | ||||||
10 | neighborhoods and communities; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, The Jewish Council on Urban Affairs remains as | ||||||
12 | relevant today as it was 50 years ago, serving as an essential | ||||||
13 | Jewish voice for social justice; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
15 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
16 | we congratulate the administration and staff of the Jewish | ||||||
17 | Council on Urban Affairs on the occasion of the organization's | ||||||
18 | 50th anniversary and wish them continued success in the future; | ||||||
19 | and be it further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs as a symbol of | ||||||
22 | our esteem and respect.
