2 | WHEREAS, Recognizing that work remains to be done to aid | ||||||
3 | the high number of
unemployed and underemployed individuals, | ||||||
4 | the State of Illinois and the federal
government have announced | ||||||
5 | major initiatives to promote workforce development
activities; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, These activities are primarily aimed at helping | ||||||
8 | individuals acquire the
knowledge and skills necessary to | ||||||
9 | pursue a career in today's competitive job market; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, As part of these efforts, the State will be | ||||||
11 | promoting a new initiative to
increase the work readiness of | ||||||
12 | individuals by obtaining a college degree or career
| ||||||
13 | certificate; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, At the federal level, major efforts are being made | ||||||
15 | to review the nation's
workforce and training system to make it | ||||||
16 | more job-driven, integrated, and effective; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, A key aspect in the State and federal efforts is | ||||||
18 | the active involvement of
the private business sector; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Workforce Investment Boards provide businesses | ||||||
20 | with an important
forum to inform training providers, including |

| |||||||
1 | the public education system, community
colleges, State | ||||||
2 | University systems, and proprietary schools, of the needs of | ||||||
3 | the local
business community; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Workforce Investment Boards were established by | ||||||
5 | federal law to serve
as a vital provider of information, | ||||||
6 | programs, and services to individuals seeking
employment, | ||||||
7 | employers, and training providers; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Under the authority provided to Workforce | ||||||
9 | Investment Boards, opportunities and funds are available for | ||||||
10 | individuals to enroll in training programs and services at Job | ||||||
11 | Centers throughout the State that give priority to the local | ||||||
12 | business community's current and future needs; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, It is fitting that the Illinois House of | ||||||
14 | Representatives continues to support the role that Workforce | ||||||
15 | Investment Boards play in strengthening their local | ||||||
16 | communities and, by extension, the State of Illinois and the | ||||||
17 | nation; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, The week of August 25 through August 31, 2014 will | ||||||
19 | be an opportunity for Workforce Investment Boards to highlight | ||||||
20 | and promote the many ways in which they are undertaking this | ||||||
21 | important work; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
2 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
3 | we recognize the week of August 25 through August 31, 2014 as | ||||||
4 | "Workforce Development Week" in the State of Illinois and | ||||||
5 | encourage individuals, businesses, and governmental | ||||||
6 | organizations to visit and promote the programs and services | ||||||
7 | offered through local Workforce Investment Boards.
