2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Merle | ||||||
4 | Kirby of Greenview, who passed away on January 14, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was born on June 7, 1935 in Buffalo to | ||||||
6 | Arthur and Opal (nee Duncan) Kirby; he graduated from Tri-City | ||||||
7 | High School in 1953 and attended Blackburn College; he married | ||||||
8 | Jane Armstrong on April 10, 1955; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was a farmer in the Greenview area for | ||||||
10 | many years and was employed by the Illinois Historic | ||||||
11 | Preservation Agency for 25 years; he served on the Greenview | ||||||
12 | School Board from 1964 to 1972; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was a member of the United | ||||||
14 | Presbyterian Church in Greenview; he was very active in the | ||||||
15 | community and was involved in many organizations; he was | ||||||
16 | Chairman of the Menard County Commissioners Board for 19 years, | ||||||
17 | a member of the New Salem Shrine Club, Greenview Masonic Lodge | ||||||
18 | #653, the Menard County Farm Bureau, Jesters, and the Ancient | ||||||
19 | Accepted Scottish Right 33rd Degree; he was also a member of | ||||||
20 | the United County Council of Illinois and the Greenview | ||||||
21 | Community Fire Protection District Board; and

1 | WHEREAS, Merle Kirby enjoyed taking fishing trips to his | ||||||
2 | cabin in Minnesota; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
4 | Jane; his son, Patrick "Fudd"; his brothers, James, John, | ||||||
5 | Eugene, and Donald; his brother-in-law, Bill Armstrong; and his | ||||||
6 | sister-in-law, Susan Armstrong; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Merle Kirby is survived by his daughter, Durinda | ||||||
8 | Kirby; his son, Mike (Lori); his brother, William Dean Kirby; | ||||||
9 | his grandchildren, Landon "Hoss" (Jamie) Kirby, Natasha (Adam) | ||||||
10 | Bacon, and Kaylee Kirby; his step-grandchildren, Ryan and | ||||||
11 | Jeremy "Tank" Hatfield; and his great-grandchildren, Kirby Jo | ||||||
12 | and Milo Bacon; therefore, be it
| ||||||
13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
14 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
15 | we mourn the passing of Merle Kirby, and extend our sincere | ||||||
16 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
17 | him; and be it further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Merle Kirby as an expression of our | ||||||
20 | deepest sympathy.
