2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Ralph DeBartolo on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of his retirement from the Cook County Sheriff's | ||||||
5 | Office after 55 years of dedicated service in law enforcement; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Ralph DeBartolo served his country with pride as a | ||||||
8 | member of the United States Army as an artilleryman during the | ||||||
9 | Korean War; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Ralph DeBartolo began his long and distinguished | ||||||
11 | career in law enforcement on July 17, 1957 as a cadet with the | ||||||
12 | Chicago Police Department; for the last 17 years of his time | ||||||
13 | with the Department, he served as the personal bodyguard for | ||||||
14 | the psychiatrists who helped determine the sanity of mass | ||||||
15 | murderers, serial killers, and other criminal suspects; he | ||||||
16 | retired from the Department on February 4, 1989; and

17 | WHEREAS, Ralph DeBartolo began working for the Cook County | ||||||
18 | Sheriff's Office as a Deputy Sheriff on April 5, 1989; on | ||||||
19 | January 17, 1999, he was selected to serve as an Assistant | ||||||
20 | Chief; he served with distinction as Assistant Chief in | ||||||
21 | District 2 (Skokie) and District 3 (Rolling Meadows) for many | ||||||
22 | years until his retirement; and

1 | WHEREAS, Ralph DeBartolo was instrumental in the founding | ||||||
2 | of the Italian American Police Officers Association and is a | ||||||
3 | former president of the organization; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Ralph DeBartolo has been the recipient of numerous | ||||||
5 | awards from civic organizations, including the Order Sons of | ||||||
6 | Italy in America and the Italian American Police Officers | ||||||
7 | Association; he was the recipient of the 2010 Law Enforcement | ||||||
8 | Award from the Illinois State Bar Association; he also | ||||||
9 | participated in the annual St. Jude Police League parade | ||||||
10 | honoring fallen officers; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Ralph DeBartolo and his loving wife, Helen, were | ||||||
12 | married on August 25, 1956; together, they have 4 children, | ||||||
13 | Tony (Kim), Gina, Danny (Melissa), and Brett; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
15 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
16 | we congratulate Ralph DeBartolo on the occasion of his | ||||||
17 | retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the | ||||||
18 | future; and be it further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to Ralph DeBartolo as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
21 | respect.
