2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Kim Angela | ||||||
4 | Murph-Sims on the occasion of her retirement as principal of | ||||||
5 | Bouchet International School and recognize her nearly 34 years | ||||||
6 | of being dedicated to education within the Chicago Public | ||||||
7 | Schools; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Kim Murph-Sims has served as a teacher, reading | ||||||
9 | specialist, curriculum coordinator, TESL teacher, and | ||||||
10 | assistant principal and is currently the principal at Bouchet | ||||||
11 | International School (formerly Bouchet Math and Science | ||||||
12 | Academy, formerly Bryn Mawr Elementary); she has been the | ||||||
13 | instructional leader at Bouchet International School for the | ||||||
14 | past 7 years and her educational experience has enabled her to | ||||||
15 | craft a curriculum that strategically drives instruction; her | ||||||
16 | commitment to help all students reach their best potential has | ||||||
17 | been the cornerstone of her ongoing success; as an | ||||||
18 | administrator, she has mentored countless numbers of teachers, | ||||||
19 | overseen a diverse staff, and facilitated professional | ||||||
20 | development specifically designed to close the achievement | ||||||
21 | gap; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Kim Murph-Sims always has a visible presence in | ||||||
23 | her school as principal, but she is, at her core, a teacher; it |

1 | is not unusual to see her taking part in classroom discussions | ||||||
2 | and challenging students to continue their learning outside of | ||||||
3 | the school; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Kim Murph-Sims has crafted and sustained numerous | ||||||
5 | programs at Boucher International School such the Academic | ||||||
6 | Olympics, the Young Authors Competition, the annual Spelling | ||||||
7 | Bee, Singapore Math, lesson studies, horizontal and vertical | ||||||
8 | articulation of curriculum using a transdisciplinary approach, | ||||||
9 | Parent University workshops, Creative Curriculum for | ||||||
10 | Preschool, Fuel Up to Play 60 (Healthy Choices Program), a | ||||||
11 | Garden Room that bridges science and agricultural awareness, a | ||||||
12 | Chicago Bulls grant-Energiza Bulls Fitness Center, Youth | ||||||
13 | Guidance, Check and Connect (Attendance Incentives Program), a | ||||||
14 | Gospel Choir, Chinese Kite Making, world language studies in | ||||||
15 | Spanish, an Art Link Program that includes video conferencing | ||||||
16 | with students in other countries, and the Children's Literacy | ||||||
17 | Initiative; and

18 | WHEREAS, Kim Murph-Sims believes that the connection | ||||||
19 | between school and community is essential for educational | ||||||
20 | development and success; she has worked closely with the Black | ||||||
21 | United Fund of Illinois, Fulfilling Our Responsibility Unto | ||||||
22 | Mankind, the RALD Institute, the Allstate Insurance Company, | ||||||
23 | the Chicago Police Department-District 3, 5th Ward Alderwoman | ||||||
24 | Leslie Hariston, and many education advocacy groups to achieve |

1 | this goal; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Kim Murph-Sims time at Bouchet International | ||||||
3 | School has seen tremendous advancement; student growth has | ||||||
4 | increased by double digits on standardized tests and the school | ||||||
5 | has been transformed from a math and science academy to an | ||||||
6 | institution with a more global perspective towards education; | ||||||
7 | the school is in its candidacy phase to become an authorized | ||||||
8 | International Baccalaureate World School that provides a | ||||||
9 | Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme, with a | ||||||
10 | continuum of the MYP and Diploma Program; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, A reception honoring Kim Murph-Sims's retirement | ||||||
12 | will be held on October 25, 2013 at The Beverly Country Club in | ||||||
13 | Chicago; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
15 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
16 | we congratulate Kim Angela Murph-Sims as she retires from her | ||||||
17 | position of principal at Bouchet International School after 33 | ||||||
18 | years in education; and be it further
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to Kim Murph-Sims as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
21 | respect.
