2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to honor Sam Sanchez for his myriad | ||||||
4 | of accomplishments within the business community and his | ||||||
5 | devotion to the betterment of the neighborhoods in which he | ||||||
6 | lives and works; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Sam Sanchez is the principal partner and oversees | ||||||
8 | all facets of a multi-unit, multi-million dollar restaurant | ||||||
9 | business, including operations and business development for 4 | ||||||
10 | John Barleycorn locations and 2 Moe's Cantina locations; he | ||||||
11 | currently serves as project manager for the Old Crow | ||||||
12 | Smokehouse, a new barbecue concept under development in | ||||||
13 | Chicago's Wrigleyville neighborhood; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, In addition to his restaurants, Sam Sanchez owns | ||||||
15 | EMC Construction, a full-service construction company that | ||||||
16 | handles both renovations of existing properties and new | ||||||
17 | construction; he also owns Samco Enterprises, a staff | ||||||
18 | management and personnel training company; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Sam Sanchez is very active in the hospitality | ||||||
20 | community and the neighborhoods where his venues are located; | ||||||
21 | he is the President of the Chicago Hospitality Association, a | ||||||
22 | member and former officer of the Lincoln Park Chamber of |

1 | Commerce, a current commissioner for the Lincoln Avenue Special | ||||||
2 | Service Area, and a member and former officer of the Illinois | ||||||
3 | Restaurant Association; he also is an active member of the | ||||||
4 | River North Business Association, the Central Lakeview | ||||||
5 | Merchants Association, the East Lake View Neighbors | ||||||
6 | Association, the Schaumburg Business Association, the Greater | ||||||
7 | North Michigan Avenue Association, the Downtown Leadership | ||||||
8 | Club, and Club 42, and he serves on the host committee of the | ||||||
9 | Chicago Leadership Club; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Sam Sanchez is presently working with the City of | ||||||
11 | Chicago and community leaders to stimulate economic growth in | ||||||
12 | the 43rd Ward; he has been a vocal participant in the | ||||||
13 | development of projects that have a major impact on the | ||||||
14 | neighborhoods; he is a board member of the Lakefront Sculpture | ||||||
15 | Exhibit, a privately-funded, not-for-profit corporation that | ||||||
16 | concentrates on enriching the community with public art | ||||||
17 | projects while supporting local artists; originally focused on | ||||||
18 | the Lincoln Park neighborhood, the program has now grown to | ||||||
19 | encompass 5 Chicago neighborhoods; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Safety and security is a top concern for Sam | ||||||
21 | Sanchez and he is actively involved with the Chicago | ||||||
22 | Alternative Policing Strategy in the 44th, 43rd, and 42nd | ||||||
23 | Wards, working with residents and the police department to | ||||||
24 | identify and solve neighborhood problems; he was instrumental |

1 | in laying the groundwork with city and State legislators for | ||||||
2 | the Comprehensive Alcohol Responsible Retailing Act to help | ||||||
3 | curb overconsumption and binge drinking by setting service | ||||||
4 | standards for both retail and on-premise alcohol sales; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Sam Sanchez hosts many charitable events at his | ||||||
6 | venues throughout the year; the 43rd and 44th Ward Annual | ||||||
7 | Senior Summer Barbecues; the 43rd Ward Annual Senior Bingo | ||||||
8 | Party; the 44th Ward Annual Children's Holiday Party; the Ugly | ||||||
9 | Sweater Party, an annual food drive for the Greater Chicago | ||||||
10 | Food Depository; Pinko de Mayo, an annual event benefitting the | ||||||
11 | Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation; and the Links | ||||||
12 | Technology Cup, an annual fundraiser benefitting the | ||||||
13 | Schaumburg Park Foundation; he also serves as a mentor and | ||||||
14 | motivational speaker for Latino high school students with an | ||||||
15 | interest in public policy and business as part of a mentorship | ||||||
16 | program developed by Alderman George Cardenas; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Sam Sanchez has been married to Marga for 24 years | ||||||
18 | and they have 3 daughters together, Samantha, Korina, and | ||||||
19 | Camila; he enjoys entertaining at home and cooking for his | ||||||
20 | family and friends; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
22 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
23 | we recognize and honor Sam Sanchez for all his accomplishments, |

1 | thank him for his commitment to his community, and wish him the | ||||||
2 | best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
