2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of LaVerne | ||||||
4 | Adrienne Bell, who passed away on September 26, 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, LaVerne Bell was born on February 9, 1950 in | ||||||
6 | Chicago; her parents were Rev. Walter Willis Jones and Mother | ||||||
7 | Luida Mae Jones; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, LaVerne Bell accepted Christ as her personal | ||||||
9 | Savior at the age of 10 at Portland Street Church of God in | ||||||
10 | Christ in Chicago Heights, where she sung as a soloist in the | ||||||
11 | choir; she later worshiped faithfully at Faith Temple Church of | ||||||
12 | God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor William H. | ||||||
13 | Goldsberry in Chicago until her mother passing, at which time | ||||||
14 | she began worshiping at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in | ||||||
15 | Harvey; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, LaVerne Bell attended Garfield Elementary School, | ||||||
17 | Washington Junior High School, and Bloom Trail High School in | ||||||
18 | Chicago Heights; she later attended Thornton Community College | ||||||
19 | in South Holland; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, LaVerne Bell worked at Inland Steel in Chicago | ||||||
21 | Heights, Andrew Electrical in Orland Park, and the Universal |

| |||||||
1 | Brush Company in Markham; she also had a great passion for | ||||||
2 | cooking and spent many years as a chef at Gino's Steakhouse in | ||||||
3 | Harvey and as a manager at the House of Pizza in Dolton; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, After her retirement, LaVerne Bell continued to | ||||||
5 | serve her community as an election judge with the Cook County | ||||||
6 | Board of Elections for many years and as a volunteer work at | ||||||
7 | Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey for over 15 years; she | ||||||
8 | received numerous awards for her hard work and dedication; she | ||||||
9 | also volunteered as a mentor through the American Cancer | ||||||
10 | Society, where she guided and encouraged those recovering from | ||||||
11 | breast cancer, participated in the Annual Daffodil Program, and | ||||||
12 | took part in various breast cancer awareness walks and runs; | ||||||
13 | and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, LaVerne Bell is survived by her daughter, Shavelle | ||||||
15 | Danae Bell; her brother, Walter W. Jones, Jr. (Denitra); her | ||||||
16 | sister, Audrey McClellon; her many nephews and nieces; her | ||||||
17 | caretaker, Kenneth Lamar Holmes; her many cousins; her | ||||||
18 | goddaughters and godson; her co-workers; her many friends; and | ||||||
19 | her Yorkie, Sasja; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, LaVerne Bell was preceded in death by her parents; | ||||||
21 | her sister, Rose; her brother; her son, Milo II; and her | ||||||
22 | sister-in-law, Annie Lee Bell; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
2 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
3 | we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of | ||||||
4 | LaVerne Adrienne Bell; and be it further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of LaVerne Bell as an expression of our | ||||||
7 | sympathy.
