2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois Soybean | ||||||
4 | Association and the Illinois Soybean Growers on their milestone | ||||||
5 | anniversaries; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) will be | ||||||
7 | celebrating 100 years of soybean production in Illinois and 50 | ||||||
8 | years of the Illinois Soybean Growers (ISG) representing | ||||||
9 | soybean farmers; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, These milestones will be celebrated at the 2013 | ||||||
11 | Farm Progress Show, which will be held in Decatur and during | ||||||
12 | 2013 and 2014 at various agriculture events in Illinois; the | ||||||
13 | celebration will conclude during ISA's annual meeting in summer | ||||||
14 | 2014; as part of the celebration, ISA will publish a special | ||||||
15 | edition of Illinois Field & Bean, which will debut in November | ||||||
16 | 2013 at the Illinois Commodity Conference; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, The ISA has existed in one form or another since | ||||||
18 | the mid-1960s; previously, the ISA operated as the umbrella | ||||||
19 | organization for both the Illinois Soybean Program Operating | ||||||
20 | Board (ISPOB) and the Land of Lincoln Soybean Association | ||||||
21 | (LOLSA); and

1 | WHEREAS, The Illinois soybean checkoff coordinates | ||||||
2 | research, education, and promotion funded by checkoff dollars | ||||||
3 | contributed by all Illinois soybean farmers; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, The LOLSA was the predecessor to the ISG; the | ||||||
5 | association was officially formed in 1964 to provide | ||||||
6 | legislative representation for growers; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, During the same decade, the LOLSA and the Illinois | ||||||
8 | Soybean Program Operating Board began supporting international | ||||||
9 | marketing offices through the American Soybean Association and | ||||||
10 | the ISPOB began funding production research; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Through the last few decades, a number of | ||||||
12 | marketing, research, and promotion activities and legislative | ||||||
13 | efforts have been added and refined by Illinois soybean | ||||||
14 | growers; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, In 1990, Illinois soybean leaders joined other | ||||||
16 | State leaders to draft guidelines for a uniform national | ||||||
17 | soybean checkoff; the effort was successful, and the checkoff | ||||||
18 | is now a major source of funding for local, state, national, | ||||||
19 | and international soy projects; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, In 2012, to provide a more efficient structure for | ||||||
21 | Illinois soybean farmers to support their industry, the LOLSA |

1 | and ISPOB were formally replaced by the Illinois Soybean | ||||||
2 | Growers (ISG) and the Illinois Soybean Board (ISB); and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, The overall mission and vision of the ISA remains | ||||||
4 | the same: Working together as ISA, ISG and ISB strive to enable | ||||||
5 | Illinois soybean producers to be the most knowledgeable and | ||||||
6 | profitable soybean producers around the world; therefore, be it | ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
8 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
9 | we congratulate the Illinois Soybean Association and the | ||||||
10 | Illinois Soybean Growers on their milestone anniversaries, and | ||||||
11 | on their continued work to support Illinois farmers and promote | ||||||
12 | Illinois agriculture; and be it further
| ||||||
13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
14 | presented to the Illinois Soybean Association and the Illinois | ||||||
15 | Soybean Growers as an expression of our esteem and respect.
