2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Karen | ||||||
4 | Jones; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Karen Jones was born on July 1, 1966; her parents | ||||||
6 | were the late Barbara Ann and Kenneth Jones; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Karen Jones graduated from Proviso East High | ||||||
8 | School in 1984; as a role model to her daughter, she enrolled | ||||||
9 | in Benedictine University, where she acquired an associate's | ||||||
10 | degree with honors in 2006; she went on to receive a bachelor's | ||||||
11 | degree in 2008 and a master's degree in leadership in May of | ||||||
12 | 2012; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, As a teenager, Karen Jones joined Second Baptist | ||||||
14 | Church of Maywood and was baptized under the pastorate of | ||||||
15 | Reverend Wallace Sykes; at the time of her passing, she | ||||||
16 | attended New Life Covenant Church under the pastorate of John | ||||||
17 | Hannah; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Karen Jones was employed at Proviso West High | ||||||
19 | School in an administrative capacity for 14 years; she also | ||||||
20 | sponsored and championed the PIP Dance Ministry and wrote and | ||||||
21 | produced several inspirational plays, which always reached the |

1 | community with messages of hope and redemption through the | ||||||
2 | ministry of dance and drama; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Karen Jones founded, supported, sponsored and | ||||||
4 | served numerous organizations, including the Founder of Real | ||||||
5 | Women Ministries, the Beyond Beautiful Young Women's | ||||||
6 | Conference, and the Passion to Praise Production Company; she | ||||||
7 | served as the young women's guidance counselor for the John C. | ||||||
8 | Vaughns Scholarship Fund, a prayer facilitator for the Rock of | ||||||
9 | Ages Foundations of Faith, and a new members facilitator at | ||||||
10 | Victory Cathedral; she was also a member of the Change | ||||||
11 | Community Choir and the James Hamilton Singers; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Karen Jones will be missed dearly by her loving | ||||||
13 | daughter, Rebecca Stenson; her sister, Carlotta Renee Plummer; | ||||||
14 | her nephews, Kevin (Tisha) and Kenneth; her great-nieces and | ||||||
15 | great-nephews, Tyrone, Ashlie, Tierra, and Kamaal; her special | ||||||
16 | nieces, Sonja (Chris) and Tracy; her godchildren, Michael | ||||||
17 | Porter and Janae Curry; her aunts and uncles, Frances, Janet, | ||||||
18 | Pat (Solomon), Richard, Shirley (Ken), and Pearl; her many | ||||||
19 | cousins; her father in the faith, Dr. Copeland, and her mentor, | ||||||
20 | Dr. Tanesha Pittman; and her friends, Arenia, Marcia, Laketha, | ||||||
21 | Talonda, Alisa, Wonderlyn, and Shanna; therefore, be it
| ||||||
22 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
23 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

1 | we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of | ||||||
2 | Karen Jones; and be it further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to the family of Karen Jones as an expression of our | ||||||
5 | sympathy.
