2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Michele Clancy as | ||||||
4 | she steps down from her leadership positions at Stroke | ||||||
5 | Survivors Empowering Each Other Inc.; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Michele Clancy is a stroke-survivor who suffered a | ||||||
7 | stroke on the morning of her 19th wedding anniversary; now | ||||||
8 | married for 35 years to Tom Clancy, helping stroke survivors | ||||||
9 | became and remains her passion; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Michele Clancy has an extensive volunteer | ||||||
11 | history; from 2004 to the present she has been with Stroke | ||||||
12 | Survivors Empowering Each Other Inc., whose mission is to | ||||||
13 | improve the quality of life for current and future stoke | ||||||
14 | survivors by building community, providing education, focusing | ||||||
15 | on policies related to stroke, and giving a voice to stroke | ||||||
16 | survivors and other key constituents; she is the organization's | ||||||
17 | co-founder, president, treasurer, and serves on the board; she | ||||||
18 | collaborated with the American Hearth Association to assist | ||||||
19 | with State legislation for Primary Stroke Center guidelines; | ||||||
20 | and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Michele Clancy has also volunteered with the | ||||||
22 | American Heart Association Illinois Advocacy Board from |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | 2001-present, participating in the Illinois State Stroke Lobby | ||||||
2 | Day in 2006 and the Federal Heart and Stroke Lobby Day in 2008; | ||||||
3 | she has volunteered with the Illinois State Stroke Task Force | ||||||
4 | from 2010-present, the Illinois Disability and Health Program | ||||||
5 | from 2012-present, and the Sharp Rehabilitation Center in San | ||||||
6 | Diego, California, from 1998-2000; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Michele Clancy brought a great deal of | ||||||
8 | professional experience to her volunteerism; from 2001-2006 | ||||||
9 | she worked for the Target Corporation in Minneapolis, | ||||||
10 | Minnesota, as a pharmacy technician; from 1988-1999 she worked | ||||||
11 | for Biosite Diagnostics Inc. in San Diego, California, as an | ||||||
12 | animal health technician/vivarium technician and a research | ||||||
13 | associate, and from 1987-1988 she worked for the Carmel | ||||||
14 | Mountain Animal Hospital/Mesa Community College in San Diego, | ||||||
15 | California, as a veterinary assistant/animal health technician | ||||||
16 | intern; and

17 | WHEREAS, Michele Clancy holds a bachelors of science in | ||||||
18 | business administration with a concentration in industrial | ||||||
19 | relations from Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota; | ||||||
20 | and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Michele Clancy has received the Eagle Spirit Award | ||||||
22 | in May 2000 from the Sharp Rehabilitation Center for overcoming | ||||||
23 | adversities after experiencing a stroke and for offering |

1 | positive assistance to other stroke survivors, and the American | ||||||
2 | Heart & Stroke Hero award in May 2006 from the American Heart | ||||||
3 | Association-Midwest Affiliate in Chicago for championing the | ||||||
4 | needs of fellow stroke survivors and helping create stroke | ||||||
5 | awareness; therefore, be it

6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
7 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
8 | we congratulate Michele Clancy as she steps down from her | ||||||
9 | leadership positions at Stroke Survivors Empowering Each | ||||||
10 | Other, Inc., thank her for her commitment to aiding and | ||||||
11 | improving the lives of stroke survivors, and we wish her well | ||||||
12 | in all her future endeavours; and be it further

13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
14 | presented to Michel Clancy as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
15 | respect.
