2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Amedeo | ||||||
4 | Andrew Giorgi, who passed away peacefully in his home, | ||||||
5 | surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, May 15, 2013; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Amedeo Giorgi was born on April 5, 1926, in | ||||||
7 | Rockford; his parents were Louisa and Gabriel Giorgi; he | ||||||
8 | attended Saint Anthony Grade School, Barbour School, | ||||||
9 | Washington Junior High, where he excelled in swimming, and West | ||||||
10 | High School, where he met his wife of 67 years, Marilyn Virgene | ||||||
11 | Wardecker; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Amedeo Giorgi served in World War II as a gunner | ||||||
13 | and postal worker in Guam; he earned his business certificate | ||||||
14 | from Rockford Business College in 1947; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Amedeo Giorgi worked for the Rockford Street | ||||||
16 | Department for 20 years, where he served as assistant | ||||||
17 | supervisor; while there, he led the city workers on their first | ||||||
18 | strike for higher wages and better working conditions; he later | ||||||
19 | joined the National AFL-CIO as a business representative for | ||||||
20 | the retail clerks union, where he worked for almost 30 years; | ||||||
21 | in the evenings, he moonlighted at the United States Postal | ||||||
22 | Service to support his family; and

1 | WHEREAS, Amadeo Giorgi loved to travel and visited every | ||||||
2 | state except Alaska; he loved to watch old movies and listen to | ||||||
3 | jazz; he also loved to do things with his family; his favorite | ||||||
4 | saying was "Avanti", which translates to "forward" and "never | ||||||
5 | give up"; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Amadeo Giorgi was a public servant; in the 1960s, | ||||||
7 | 1970s, and 1980s, he represented the 5th Ward of Rockford on | ||||||
8 | the Winnebago County Board; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Amadeo Giorgi served as president of Rockford | ||||||
10 | United Labor and 16th District COPE for many terms; he was a | ||||||
11 | member of the Saint Ambrogio Society and the Saint Anthony Holy | ||||||
12 | Name Society; he represented the 5th Ward, 2nd Precinct as a | ||||||
13 | precinct committeeman for many years; he was also a member of | ||||||
14 | the Moose Club and the Young Democrats; he was affectionately | ||||||
15 | known by his childhood friends by the nickname, "Mud"; | ||||||
16 | therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we mourn the passing of Amadeo Giorgi and extend our sincere | ||||||
20 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
21 | him; and be it further
