2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to honor Marilyn J. Schnell for her 25 | ||||||
4 | years of service as a Downers Grove Village Council | ||||||
5 | Commissioner; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Marilyn Schnell earned her bachelor's degree with | ||||||
7 | honors in history from Queens College and attended Cornell | ||||||
8 | University's Graduate School of Rural Sociology; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Marilyn Schnell taught computer science and | ||||||
10 | statistical analysis at Cornell University; she established a | ||||||
11 | computer curriculum at Warwick High School in Rhode Island and | ||||||
12 | acted as a computer liaison at the College of DuPage; she also | ||||||
13 | served as a computer consultant to small businesses; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Marilyn Schnell was appointed to serve on the | ||||||
15 | Downers Grove Village Council in 1988; she is currently serving | ||||||
16 | in her 5th term; during her tenure on the Council, she has | ||||||
17 | served on many ad-hoc committees and worked on many issues, | ||||||
18 | including revisions to the zoning ordinance, wetland | ||||||
19 | preservation, residential redevelopment, and improvement of | ||||||
20 | traffic conditions around the high schools; she was also | ||||||
21 | instrumental in helping to bring the DARE program to Downers | ||||||
22 | Grove and was an active participant in the Total Community |

1 | Development II program; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Marilyn Schnell served on the Plan Commission from | ||||||
3 | 1980 to 1988; she also served as liaison to the Zoning | ||||||
4 | Commission from 1982 to 1988 and was the Mayor Pro-Tempore | ||||||
5 | between 1994 and 1999; prior to moving to Downers Grove in | ||||||
6 | 1980, she served on the Wheaton Housing Commission for over 6 | ||||||
7 | years; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Marilyn Schnell has been an active member of many | ||||||
9 | community and service organizations, including Helping Girls | ||||||
10 | Navigate Adolescence, the Character Counts Coalition, Pancake | ||||||
11 | Breakfast, St. Mary of Gostyn Church, the Finance Committee and | ||||||
12 | board of trustees of Marmion Academy, the Parents Board of | ||||||
13 | Lawrence University, the District 58 Strategic Planning | ||||||
14 | Committee, the Highland School PTA, the Herrick PTA, the DuPage | ||||||
15 | Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the DuPage Mayors and | ||||||
16 | Managers Legislative Committee; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Marilyn Schnell was a recipient of the Rotary | ||||||
18 | Club's Paul Harris Fellow Award for Community Service and has | ||||||
19 | been recognized by Family Shelter Services for service to the | ||||||
20 | community; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Marilyn Schnell and her loving husband, Philip, | ||||||
22 | were married on March 27, 1967; together, they have 2 children, |

1 | Carrie (Charles) and Andrew (Lacey), and a dog, Payton; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Marilyn Schnell was honored for her service with | ||||||
3 | an event in her honor on May 7, 2013 at Gatto's Restaurant and | ||||||
4 | Bar in Downers Grove; therefore, be it

5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
6 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
7 | we congratulate honor Marilyn J. Schnell for her 25 years of | ||||||
8 | service as a Downers Grove Village Council Commissioner and | ||||||
9 | wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be | ||||||
10 | it further

11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to Marilyn Schnell as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
13 | respect.
