2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former | ||||||
4 | Homewood Village President and State Representative Manny | ||||||
5 | Hoffman of Homewood, who passed away on February 27, 2013; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was born on February 22, 1937; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from Hirsch High School in 1955; he married Judy in | ||||||
8 | 1958 and moved to Homewood in 1963; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was a long-time insurance agent with | ||||||
10 | State Farm and owned and operated the Manny Hoffman State Farm | ||||||
11 | Insurance Agency in Homewood for 34 years; he was a lifetime | ||||||
12 | member of the State Farm President's Club, an organization of | ||||||
13 | the company's top 50 agents nationwide; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was well-known for his diverse and | ||||||
15 | active career of service in the Homewood-Flossmor area; he was | ||||||
16 | president of the Homewood-Flossmor Park District's board of | ||||||
17 | commissioners, chairman of the Cook County Republican Party, | ||||||
18 | and was on the board for the Cancer Support Center, Irons Oaks, | ||||||
19 | and the Prairie State College Foundation; he was an honorary | ||||||
20 | board member of the Jennifer Fallick Cancer Support Center; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman and his wife, Judy, were inducted |

1 | into Homewood's Hall of Fame in October 2008; his first office | ||||||
2 | was secretary of the village's volunteer fire department; he | ||||||
3 | was village trustee from 1977 to 1985 and mayor from 1985 to | ||||||
4 | 1991; he was active in the Jaycees and co-chaired biennial | ||||||
5 | celebrations in 1976; he also served as a member of the Rich | ||||||
6 | Township Board from 2008 to 2011; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, The Village of Homewood named a street Manny | ||||||
8 | Hoffman Way to honor his service; he was awarded the Spirit of | ||||||
9 | Life Award in 2006; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman represented the 37th District in the | ||||||
11 | Illinois General Assembly from 1991 to 1993; he was appointed | ||||||
12 | to the Illinois Labor Relations Board by Gov. Jim Edgar in 1993 | ||||||
13 | and re-appointed to his fourth term as chairman by Gov. George | ||||||
14 | H. Ryan; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
16 | Judy; and

17 | WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman is survived by his children, Larry, | ||||||
18 | Debbie, and Julie; and his grandson; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
20 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
21 | we mourn the passing of former Homewood Village President and |

1 | State Representative Manny Hoffman, and we extend our sincere | ||||||
2 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
3 | him; and be it further
