2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate William H. Rahn on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of his retirement as Mayor of the Village of Westmont; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, William Rahn was born and raised in Westmont; he | ||||||
7 | earned a bachelor's degree in business and marketing and earned | ||||||
8 | masters degrees in special education and administration and | ||||||
9 | counseling from Northern Illinois University; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, William Rahn began his life in public service as | ||||||
11 | the volunteer chairperson for the Westmont Cable Television | ||||||
12 | Committee in the 1980s; as chairperson, he and the other | ||||||
13 | commissioners were successful in negotiating the initial cable | ||||||
14 | contract that brought cable TV service to the community and | ||||||
15 | leveraged the creation of a state-of-the-art television | ||||||
16 | production studio and related services to the Village of | ||||||
17 | Westmont, enabling Westmont to be one of the area leaders in | ||||||
18 | using cable TV to record and playback government meetings; he | ||||||
19 | also served as a chairperson of the Village of Westmont | ||||||
20 | Planning and Zoning Commission and member of several other | ||||||
21 | committees and was an active member of the DuPage Mayor's and | ||||||
22 | Managers Conference; and

1 | WHEREAS, William Rahn first ran for elected office in 1983, | ||||||
2 | when he was elected to the position of Village Trustee; after 4 | ||||||
3 | terms as Trustee, he was elected to the position of Mayor in | ||||||
4 | 1999, where he remained until his retirement; as Mayor, he | ||||||
5 | emphasized fiduciary responsibility and making sure the | ||||||
6 | village government is run efficiently; he has been a strong | ||||||
7 | advocate of expanding community business development, | ||||||
8 | maintaining quality programs and services for the community, | ||||||
9 | and continuing family-friendly community events; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, As Mayor and in his personal life, William Rahn | ||||||
11 | has held close relationships with the Westmont Chamber of | ||||||
12 | Commerce, the Westmont Rotary, the Westmont Lions, the Westmont | ||||||
13 | Special Events Corporation, and the Westmont Historical | ||||||
14 | Society, where he was a charter member; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, William Rahn and his loving wife of 40 years, | ||||||
16 | Jill, have 3 children, Peter, Heidi, and Danika; therefore, be | ||||||
17 | it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
19 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
20 | we congratulate William H. Rahn on the occasion of his | ||||||
21 | retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the | ||||||
22 | future; and be it further
