HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is appropriate for us to remember the many
3sacrifices and contributions to the cause of freedom made by
4the outstanding men and women who serve in combat and give the
5ultimate sacrifice; and
 
6    WHEREAS, United States Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Jordan
7B. Emrick of Hoyleton was killed in action defending America's
8freedom in Afghanistan on November 5, 2010; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick was born on December
1019, 1983 in Centralia to Terry and Doris (nee Seeger) Emrick;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick graduated from
13Nashville High School in 2002; he attended Trinity Lutheran
14Church and was an avid skydiver and enjoyed sailing; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick served in the United
16States Marine Corps with the 1st Explosives Ordinance Disposal
17Company, a unit based in Camp Pendleton, California, that is
18currently serving in Afghanistan; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick was a highly
20decorated Marine who enlisted shortly after the September 11th

1attacks; he had previously served one deployment in the Persian
2Gulf and 2 deployments in Iraq; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick is survived by his
4parents, Terry and Doris; his brother; Brandon (Kimberly)
5Emrick; his sisters, Christi (Ryan) Payne and Brittany
6(Anthony) Aussieker; his grandmother, Edith Seeger; and his
7many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick will be remembered by
9all who knew and loved him for his selfless dedication to his
10Marine brethren by volunteering for ordinance disposal duty;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick's patriotism and
13courage will be remembered fondly by his loving family, his
14fellow soldiers, and the citizens of our grateful nation; and
 
15    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that we pay honor and respect
16to the truly great individuals who have served our country,
17and, in doing so, have gone above and beyond the call of duty
18to take part in truly heroic tasks; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
21SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois Route 177

1between Hoyleton and New Minden the "SSgt. Jordan Emrick
2Memorial Highway"; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
4is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
5State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
6giving notice of the name of the "SSgt. Jordan Emrick Memorial
7Highway"; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick and to
10the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
