HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 37

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
4who have served our country and, in doing so, have gone above
5and beyond the call of duty to make the ultimate sacrifice for
6our nation; and
 
7    WHEREAS, SPC Trevor Pinnick dedicated his life to defending
8America's freedom and made the ultimate sacrifice in service to
9his nation on June 12, 2012, in a medical treatment facility at
10Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when his
11unit was attacked by an enemy improvised explosive device; and
 
12    WHEREAS, SPC Trevor Pinnick was born on January 6, 1992, in
13Chesapeake, Virginia, graduating from Lawrenceville High
14School in May of 2010, and joining the Army right out of high
15school, serving with the 18th Engineer Company, 1st Battalion,
1637th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team
17of the 2nd Infantry Division, out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord,
18Washington; and
 
19    WHEREAS, SPC Trevor Pinnick received the Army Achievement
20Medal on September 6, 2011, for his work in August 2011 with
21the 18th Engineer Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment
22and was promoted to Specialist in the first week of June 2011,

1and was scheduled to be home on leave a month before giving his
2life; he was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart; and
 
3    WHEREAS, SPC Trevor Pinnick leaves behind his wife, Martha
4Pinnick; his daughter, Melody Renee Pinnick; his mother, Nancy
5Pinnick; his father, Thomas Pinnick; his older brother, Thomas
6Pinnick Jr.; and his twin sisters, Kayla Lynn Pinnick and
7Bethany Rose Pinnick; and
 
8    WHEREAS, United States and Illinois flags throughout the
9State flew at half-staff as a symbol of mourning and to honor
10the sacrifice of SPC Trevor Pinnick; and
 
11    WHEREAS, SPC Trevor Pinnick's funeral was held at the
12Lawrenceville High School Auditorium and he was laid to rest in
13Memorial Park Cemetery in Vincennes, Indiana, with full
14military honors; and
 
15    WHEREAS, This fallen soldier deserves to be remembered by
16the State of Illinois for his service to this country;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
20SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of U.S.
21Route 50 Business through Lawrenceville, Illinois, as the

1"Trevor Pinnick Memorial Highway" in honor of the memory and
2sacrifice of SPC Trevor Pinnick; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, The Illinois Department of Transportation is
4requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State
5and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving
6notice of the name of the "Trevor Pinnick Memorial Highway";
7and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
9delivered to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
10Transportation, and the family of SPC Trevor Pinnick.
