SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 

 
625 ILCS 5/3-699.14 new

     Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide for the issuance of special license plates honoring the USS Illinois and the U.S. Submarine Force. Provides that the applicant shall pay an additional fee of $25 for original issuance of the plates, of which $25 shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund. Provides that an additional fee of $25 shall be charged for each renewal, of which $25 shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
  
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
 
3represented in the General Assembly:
  


 
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended  by adding 
5Section 3-699.14 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-699.14 new)
7    Sec. 3-699.14. USS Illinois and the U.S. Submarine Force 
8plates.
9    (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and 
10applications made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of 
11State, may issue special registration plates designated as USS 
12Illinois and the U.S. Submarine Force plates. The special 
13plates issued under this Section shall be affixed only to 
14passenger vehicles of the first division or motor vehicles of 
15the second division weighing not more than 8,000 lbs. Plates 
16issued under this Section shall expire according to the 
17multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this 
18Code.

19    (b) The design and color of the special plates shall be 
20wholly within the discretion of the Secretary with input from 
21the USS Illinois Commissioning Committee. Appropriate 
22documentation, as determined by the Secretary, shall accompany 
23each application.

1    (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a 
2$25 fee for original issuance in addition to the appropriate 
3registration fee. Of this fee, $25 shall be deposited into the 
4Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund, to be used by 
5the Secretary to help defray the administrative processing 
6costs. For each registration renewal period, a $25 fee, in 
7addition to the appropriate registration fee, shall be charged. 
8Of this fee, $25 shall be deposited into the Secretary of State 
9Special License Plate Fund.


 
10    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
11becoming law.
