Amends the Employee Credit Privacy Act. Requires a consumer reporting agency that prepares an investigative consumer report, as defined in the Fair Credit Reporting Act, to provide upon request and without fee a copy to the consumer. Provides that the disclosure is intended to supplement the Fair Credit Reporting Act and provide greater protection to consumers.

1 | | AN ACT concerning employment.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Employee Credit Privacy Act is amended by |
5 | | changing Section 30 as follows: |
6 | | (820 ILCS 70/30)
|
7 | | Sec. 30. Fair Credit Reporting Act. |
8 | | (a) Nothing in this Act shall prohibit employers from |
9 | | conducting a thorough background investigation, which may |
10 | | include obtaining a report without information on credit |
11 | | history or an investigative report without information on |
12 | | credit history, or both, as permitted under the Fair Credit |
13 | | Reporting Act. This information shall be used for employment |
14 | | purposes only.

15 | | (b) A consumer reporting agency that prepares an |
16 | | investigative consumer report, as defined in the Fair Credit |
17 | | Reporting Act, shall, upon request and without charge, provide |
18 | | to the consumer a copy of the investigative consumer report. |
19 | | The requirements of this subsection are intended to supplement |
20 | | the provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and provide |
21 | | additional protection to consumers. |
