SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-699.14 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Creates the United Nations Operation in Somalia license plate. Provides that the Secretary of State may issue United Nations Operation in Somalia license plates to residents of Illinois who meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the Secretary of State.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-699.14 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-699.14 new)
7    Sec. 3-699.14. United Nations Operation in Somalia License
8Plates.
9    (a) The Secretary of State, upon receipt of all applicable
10fees and applications made in the form prescribed by the
11Secretary, may issue United Nations Operation in Somalia
12license plates to residents of Illinois who meet eligibility
13requirements prescribed by the Secretary of State. The special
14United Nations Operation in Somalia plate issued under this
15Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the
16first division, motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the second
17division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued
18under this Section shall expire according to the staggered
19multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this
20Code.
21    (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be
22wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The
23Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be

1issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance with
2Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to
3designate "Land Of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of
4Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall prescribe the
5eligibility requirements and, in his or her discretion, shall
6approve and prescribe stickers or decals as provided under
7Section 3-412.
