Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Creates the United Nations Operation in Somalia license plate. Provides that the Secretary of State may issue United Nations Operation in Somalia license plates to residents of Illinois who meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the Secretary of State.

1 | | AN ACT concerning transportation.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
5 | | Section 3-699.14 as follows: |
6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-699.14 new) |
7 | | Sec. 3-699.14. United Nations Operation in Somalia License |
8 | | Plates. |
9 | | (a) The Secretary of State, upon receipt of all applicable |
10 | | fees and applications made in the form prescribed by the |
11 | | Secretary, may issue United Nations Operation in Somalia |
12 | | license plates to residents of Illinois who meet eligibility |
13 | | requirements prescribed by the Secretary of State. The special |
14 | | United Nations Operation in Somalia plate issued under this |
15 | | Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the |
16 | | first division, motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the second |
17 | | division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued |
18 | | under this Section shall expire according to the staggered |
19 | | multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this |
20 | | Code. |
21 | | (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be |
22 | | wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The |
23 | | Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be |
