1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 10. The Communicable Disease Prevention Act is
5amended by adding Section 1.10 as follows:
 
6    (410 ILCS 315/1.10 new)
7    Sec. 1.10. Meningococcal conjugate vaccine. The Department
8of Public Health shall adopt a rule requiring students, upon
9entering the 6th and 12th grade of any public, private, or
10parochial school, to receive an immunization containing
11meningococcal conjugate vaccine that meets the standards
12approved by the U.S. Public Health Service for such biological
13products and is in accordance with the recommendations of the
14Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory
15Committee on Immunization Practices. The immunization shall
16consist of one dose of the MCV4 vaccine for 6th grade entrance
17and 2 doses for 12th grade entrance, unless the first dose was
18administered to a child who was 16 years of age or older, in
19which case only one dose is required at 12th grade entrance.
20However, if the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
21Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices' recommendations
22for adolescents are updated, then the requirement under this
23Section should reflect those changes to be current. The

1immunization requirement shall not apply before 6 months after
2final rules are approved. Existing Illinois standards for
3parental or legal guardian objections or medical objections
4shall be applicable.
